Dates – Last week of June, 2023 or first week of July, 2023
Samvaad, since 2014, has emerged as an ecosystem that brings together tribes of India and beyond for constructive dialogue. It enables critical elements of tribal identity to thrive, be celebrated and fed into the dialogue and fosters a youth peer group that drives positive change. It has brought together more than 30,000 women, men and children from 157 tribes across 25 states and five Union Territories of India and 17 countries, who have reinstated faith in the Samvaad ecosystem, time and again, in impartial contemplation of tribal narratives, balanced with a celebration of rich tribal culture, music, folklore and beyond.
This ecosystem, each year, is held together by an underlying theme which is contextual and resonant for dialogue throughout the year and the five-day annual event held during November. The theme has matured from specific domains like tribal languages, leadership, culture, and healing practices, among others, leading to broader pivots of conversations on Tribalism Today and Coming Together for Social Change.
Our effort to bring communities closer, therefore, continues through the theme: Reimagine.
Continuing the dialogue: We are at the cusp of a decade that is everchanging, and, at this juncture, a lot is being reimagined, including the future and what it portends for today. A new agenda for change is emerging and is raising questions that will not go away. In this context, Samvaad 2021 hopes to reflect on what tribal communities envision their future to be, in the theme for this year, ‘Reimagine.’
This year, we aim to bring communities closer to understanding the need to reimagine a future that enables long-term change, codesigning new solutions and embracing the role of the tribal way of life to drive transformations and come up with a collective voice that resonates with all.
We can only do so much by ourselves, but coming together can ensure a more profound impact. We seek to harness the Samvaad platform and take the time to listen, learn, and be authentic with each other together, and reimagine a world that has the power to create lasting change.
Tata Steel Foundation (the Foundation), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Steel Limited, was incorporated on August 16, 2016 under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013. The Foundation operates across 4,500 villages in the states of Jharkhand and Odisha through a 600-member team reaching over a million lives annually. The Foundation is focused upon co-creating solutions, with tribal and excluded communities, to address their development challenges. During this process of co- creation, the Foundation endeavours to develop and implement change models that are replicable at a national scale, enable significant and lasting betterment in the well-being of communities proximate to the Company’s operating locations and embed a societal perspective in key business decisions.
A CHANGE WHOSE TIME HAS COME
While we get captivated over sunsets along the horizon edging over the skyscrapers and modern architecture, there are communities living on the farther limits of that horizon, engulfed in deep forests and landscapes. These are our tribal communities who thrive on the strong bond with nature and could be our probable saving grace when the wrath of climate change unleashes upon us. Their connection to the jal, jangal, zameen is beyond our capabilities and there is much to learn from them.
To foster the symbiotic association, certain value systems are required, most of which comes from mutual respect and adoration for each other’s journey, traditions, and transitions. The Tribal Leadership Programme (TLP) is on the look-out for individuals who will drive that necessary change and be a role model for their next generations.
Recognising the leader within
The TLP is a residential workshop for individuals from tribal communities who feel strongly about the challenges facing their peoples, believe in the power of the tribal discourse and have the will to make a difference.
If you relate to this thought, you belong to TLP.
Setting the pace
TLP is organized by Tata Steel Foundation, the CSR implementing arm of Tata Steel Limited, and aims to bring together young individuals from tribal communities, by creating a one-of-its-kind platform to learn, co-learn and share stories of their successes, failures, inspirations while forming impactful connections. The goal is to contribute to building a
nation that has a leadership based on ground-up experience.
What the TLP offers?
TLP is a year-long engagement which is initiated through a week-long module each year.
It provides continued access to experts and peer perspectives to leverage Tata Steel Foundation’s Samvaad ecosystem (A confluence of tribal communities and their value systems).
