The Uninhibited is excited to announce The Period Fellowship 2022-2024.

The Uninhibited is a social enterprise based out of Bangalore working towards a vision of making menstruation a non-issue in low income and marginalised communities across India. We believe in de-stigmatising menstrual, sexual and reproductive health starting with an individual, household and eventually community to enable marginalised menstruators to seek healthcare, advocate for their needs and participate equitably in school, workplaces and society, eventually leading to reduced gender inequity and better health and wellbeing.

We’re looking for women* applicants who are passionate about Gender Equity and Menstrual, Sexual and Reproductive Health to join The Period Fellowship – an immersive fellowship programme.

The Period Fellowship (TPF) is a leadership journey where Period Fellows are capacitated to scale our District Engagement Model and grow into the future menstrual health leaders.

The objective of this fellowship is to make Menstruation a non-issue by breaking the silence and the social stigma surrounding it.

This is a paid 24-month full-time leadership journey designed to nurture future leaders in the menstrual health ecosystem and reduce gender inequity in the most marginalised communities across India.

The Period Fellowship 2022 will bring together 18 young, dynamic individuals from diverse backgrounds to create awareness on menstrual, sexual and reproductive health among Menstruators in the rural communites of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Since 2014, we’ve reached almost 203,540 adult and adolescent menstruators in the marginalised communities across ten states and aim to reach 1.8 million people in rural communities across India and other developing countries by 2027.

We believe in de-stigmatising menstrual, sexual, and reproductive health (MH & SRH) in marginalised communities to improve the equitable participation of women* and girls in schools, workplaces, and society. PeriodShala provides access to safe spaces, free MH & SRH education and healthcare, working with women*, girls, and the wider community of men, boys, panchayats, AAAs, and teachers to break the silence and overcome stigma to sustain behaviour change.

In 2022-24, The Period Fellowship will implement PeriodShala, and advocate to create a menstrual health friendly District in some of the most marginalised communities across India. Leveraging a coalition of partners, including the District Administration, community influencers, nonprofits, and existing community-based organisations, Period Fellows will identify and bridge MH gaps including information, products, infrastructure, and healthcare to enable systems change.
Over their 24-month journey, fellows will gain invaluable grassroots experience and a nuanced understanding of behaviour change, gender, reproductive health, sanitation and access to resources in a rural Indian context. The thoughtfully crafted leadership journey nurtures a strong sense of community and purpose within the menstrual health space and prepares Period Fellows to step-up as menstrual health leaders.
Since 2014 to date, we have reached almost 203,540 adult and adolescent menstruators in the marginalized communities across ten states and aim to reach 1.8 million people in rural communities across India and other developing countries by 2027.

The Period Fellows will be placed in one of the four key states of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Maharashtra to build the foundations for our work over the next five years. We fiercely welcome diversity in applicants, regardless of caste, sexuality, age or background. We seek to recruit a diverse, creative and passionate tribe of humans to help make menstruation a non-issue. To learn more check out our FAQs.
