Azim Premji University was founded in 2010, with the vision to contribute to the realisation of a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society.

We now have postgraduate degrees in Education, Development, Public Policy & Governance, Economics and an LLM in Law and Development. We offer undergraduate degrees in social science (Economics), science (Mathematics, Physics and Biology) and the Humanities (Language and Literature, History, and Philosophy). We offer a dual degree in science and teacher education.

We conduct more than 150 short courses for professionals every year, in the fields of education, development, policy and governance across the country. We have conducted more than 1000workshops for working professionals – teachers, teacher educators, development professionals and researchers alike. Our students come from diverse social backgrounds and are supported through our efforts to make education accessible.

India needs trained professionals in social sectors in the fields of education, development and allied areas. The scale and complexity of issues in the country need a wide range of competence and ability.

It is our mission to contribute to gaps in the social sector. We help you become motivated, socially committed professionals who can work in the spirit of social change.

Pedagogy

We offer you a foundational understanding of the domain of your choice with varied elective courses, opportunities for independent study and guest lectures, workshops and conferences.

Our faculty have extensive experience in teaching, research and field practice. Our high student-teacher ratio ensures you have close support, mentoring and feedback.

Integrated field practice

We include extensive field work in our programmes and you will have weekly practicums, field immersions, independent field projects and organisational internships with the guidance of faculty.

Vibrant student life

Our diverse student body represents 26 states from India and come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring that you have a vibrant and meaningful campus life.

Careers and Placements

We offer you excellent placements. About 90% of our graduates are working in the social sector, NGOs, schools, CSR roles and in the government. More than 90 organisations recruit from our campus every year.

We have a dedicated placement cell on campus that provides extensive assistance and training on personal and professional aspects of careers of your choice.

Scholarships & Financial Assistance

We offer extensive need-based scholarships and a guaranteed 50% tuition fee waiver for applicants with 3 years of work experience.

Application process and timeline

There are two times in a year during which you can apply. Applications for the academic year 2022 will open in October 2021.

Early admissions

We make room for applicants with at least two years of work experience to go through an early selection process earlier, in order to have time to decide and plan for an academic journey.

Selection process

Our selection process includes an entrance test and a personal interview, conducted at different locations all over India.

Entrance Test

Applicants will have to appear for the National Entrance Test that will assess the English reading comprehension, reasoning ability, quantitative ability, and general social awareness. The test will be conducted in various cities across the country. You can look at a Sample Entrance Test over here to get an idea.

Personal interview

If you are shortlisted, you will have a personal interview. You will receive a confirmation email with the date and time of your interview.

The interviews are conducted online. The link to your interview will be sent to you via email.

Eligibility and diversity

You will find below the degrees and details you need to have in place to apply to study with us.

Each of our programmes has specific criteria that you need to ensure you fulfil when you apply.

Have a look below to see what you need to have studied and what you require to be eligible for each programme.

For an MA in Economics you need:

  • An undergraduate degree in Economics.
    • Exceptions to this will be made on a case-by-case basis with students who are able to demonstrate sufficient economics knowledge.

For an MA in Education, Development and Public Policy & Governance, you need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university in India or abroad.
  • We encourage candidates with work experience to apply.
  • You can apply if you are an undergraduate student appearing for your final year examinations and will complete your graduation before the commencement of the academic programme. The offer of provisional admission is valid only on successful completion of graduation.

For the LLM in Law and Development you need:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree (or LLB of 3 or 5 years) from a recognised university in India or abroad.
  • We encourage candidates with work experience to apply.

We reserve 25% of seats for Karnataka domiciled students. These are offered to candidates who have met all the selection criteria. We offer 50% waiver in tuition fee for candidates with more than 3 years of experience after graduation. Need-based scholarship

If your family is from an income band of less than INR 7 lakhs per annum, we offer:

  • 25% scholarship of tuition and accommodation.
  • 50% scholarship of tuition and accommodation.
  • 75% scholarship of tuition and accommodation.
  • 100% scholarship for tuition and accommodation.
  • Charges for food will be payable at actuals. We offer scholarships for food in exceptional circumstances.
