Outlive Suicide Prevention Facilitator Training Programme

Outlive is a suicide prevention programme to address urban youth suicides in India. It is aimed at young adults aged 18-24 years in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. It is a four-year (2020-24) programme jointly implemented by the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy, the Indian Law Society (ILS), Sangath, and Quicksand Studio and is supported by Comic Relief, UK.

Outlive consists of (1) a national public engagement campaign to share information and resources to increase awareness and encourage youth to talk about suicide; (2) a network of youth peer supporters trained by Outlive to provide emotional support through a chat-based mobile platform to youth in distress or having thoughts of ending their life; (3) a youth advocacy training programme aimed at engaging with policymakers and participate in policy processes for youth suicide prevention.

Since 2020, Outlive has conducted 80+ workshops at colleges and community-based organisations across Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Gandhinagar to raise awareness among young people about suicide prevention strategies.  

Outlive is launching a facilitator training program to train and support young people to conduct suicide prevention awareness workshops with youth audiences. 

What you will learn through this programme:

  1. Training and instruction to conduct Outlive suicide prevention awareness sessions.
  2. Receive hand-picked resources to learn about suicide from subject experts.
  3. Receive a seven-day in-person training. 
  4. Receive mentorship and supervision to practice and implement your learned skills.
  5. Opportunity to be a part of Outlive facilitators network to organize, debrief, and co-facilitate workshops. 

Who can apply? 

  1. If you are 20-24 years old
  2. Reside in New Delhi
  3. Have completed Bachelor or pursuing a Master’s in public health, psychology, social work, or allied disciplines 
  4. Have prior experience working with or supporting youth wellbeing 
  5. Are fluent in English and/or Hindi

We especially encourage youth from Dalit, Bahujan, Adivasi, LGBTQIA+, and with disabilities to apply.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Duration of the programme

The training begins in February and terminates by the end of March. The training is divided into five parts and follows an in-person model that includes self-paced learning and practice periods. 

Programme activities 

The programme will be using varied inclusive methods of learning and teaching, including: 

  • Online learning through self-paced videos, digital handouts and discussion forums.
  • In-person gatekeeper training using discussion-based teaching, case studies, role plays, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Demonstration and modeling through role plays of facilitation skills, which would be modeled by participants on-field under supervision. 


Important points to note:

  1. Competency assessment: Trainee competence will be assessed through a quiz and observation of mock sessions.
  2. The trainees will organize and lead an Outlive workshop in their local communities during the last phase of the program (March 2024). The Outlive team will assist in co-facilitation. 
  3. Attendance and participation in the assignment and on-ground session to avail of the completion certificate are essential requirements.
