Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation is a charitable organisation providing support to a range of stakeholders in the art community, including art practitioners, scholars, students and institutions.

PARI is both a living journal and an archive. It generates and hosts reporting on the Indian countryside that is current and contemporary, while also creating a database of already published stories, reports, videos and audios from as many sources as we can. All of PARI’s own content comes under the Creative Commons and the site is free to access.

Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation (MMF) in collaboration with People’s Archive of Rural India (PARI) invites applications for the MMF-PARI Fellowship 2023-2024.

The fellowship will support four multimedia projects that create stories focussed on the arts and crafts of rural India. The stories will be published by PARI (www.ruralindiaonline.org) over a period of a year.

The proposed projects should focus on one or more of the following themes:
  • Living arts and crafts traditions
  • Social and cultural contexts of artisanal communities
  • The evolving language of art and craft in contemporary context
  • Role of technology in the lives of artisans and their practices
  • Public forums for engagement with arts (festivals, rituals and ceremonies)
  • Material innovations and collaborations

Applicants are encouraged to explore questions relevant to contemporary discourses on art and archiving practices, and engage with forms of artistic research which can drive their projects beyond traditional forms of documentation.

All applications will be reviewed for selection. However, this year, we are giving priority to applications pertaining to stories from these states: Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, West Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The proposals must have at least 8 story ideas.

Standing with PARI in its efforts to create a systematic record of the incredible diversity of rural India, preference will be given to proposals on marginalised communities and voices, and underrepresented art forms and traditions.
