Milaan is a non-profit organization, which envisions an inclusive and equal world, where every girl is educated, healthy and safe. The organisation is based in India and headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana.
For the last 15 years, through our educational and leadership programs, we have impacted the lives of 45,000 children from socially and economically marginalized communities across 3 states in India.
About Swarachna School
With the dream of making quality education and safe spaces accessible to children from economically backward families in remote rural areas, in 2007, Milaan initiated the “Swarachna School ” in a rural village named Kaintain in Sitapur District, Uttar Pradesh, India. With no senior secondary school in the vicinity for children from 15 villages, Swarachna school with the collective efforts of Milaan and the community was the first senior secondary school. The school has evolved from 1 teacher and 40 students, into a senior-secondary school with a thriving learning space for 500+ students.
Swarachna school’s mission is to be a center of excellence and innovation in developing and implementing an education model that promotes concept-based activity-driven learning and inculcates the values of self-belief, empathy, and leadership.
In 2021, The school started a residential hostel for adolescent girls who have been deeply impacted by the pandemic, were most vulnerable, and had no means of continuing their education. The residential hostel is set up within the school campus and currently has 70 girls in the hostel.
Location : Kantain village, Sidhauli block, Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh
