1. Program Associate – Urban Resilience

About your role:

The WRI India Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities is seeking to fill a Program Associate’s position to advance our policy and project related work that focusses on effective climate adaptation and resilience in Mumbai/ Maharashtra.

WRI globally, has deep experience in the urban development sector and is widely recognized as a leader in promoting sustainable cities. Currently, WRI India is supporting various government and private agencies to promote nature positive approach as part of their urban resilience and disaster mitigation strategies.
The selected candidates will contribute to research, coordination, capacity building, communications and outreach related to projects focusing on climate resilience. The position will also offer an opportunity to work on impactful on-ground projects with government bodies in integrating climate concerns into policies and programs. The selected candidates will work with the Urban Development team under Sustainable Cities and Transport Program in undertaking desk and field research, engaging with key departments in understanding climate adaptation strategies and other related work. The individual will work closely with staff from WRI India and consortium partners.

How your day will unfold:

The selected candidate will support the Sustainable Cities program at WRI India with the following:

Carry out on-ground and desk research and collect case studies that can inform projects and policy interventions.
Contribute to the publication of thematic studies, roadmaps, policy briefs, and blogs on topics related to climate resilience, blue-green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, sustainable development, etc.
Assist in coordinating events for engagement with internal and external stakeholders through roundtables, seminars/ webinars, workshops, policy interactions, training, and other communication and outreach activities.
Participate in relevant external and/or internal meetings and stakeholders’ consultations to invite inputs and integrate the same.
Assist in visual communication work when needed.
Provide support using relevant software towards the compilation of communication materials.
Locate and coordinate with relevant organizations to obtain required data and content.
Learn about existing planning policies at the city/state and national level for the same.
Contribute towards developing presentations for stakeholder meetings.
Assist in designing and creating innovative problem-solving approaches to effectively address key questions and challenges posed by our research goals and program objectives.

Qualifications and Requirements we seek:

Post-graduate in the related field of environmental studies, urban resilience, ecology, biodiversity, planning, urban design, sustainable development etc.
2 to 4 years of sectoral experience in the field of urban development.
Demonstrated proficiency in visual communication- an adept use of computer software (Adobe suite- Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, basic 3D modelling).
Video recording and video editing skills, or the willingness to learn the same.
Knowledge of ecological adaptation, or a keen interest in developing the same.
Demonstrated experience in leading and/or contributing to interdisciplinary research projects on nature based solutions, urban resilience, vulnerability assessments, community-based adaptation and other related work.
Strong communication skills, ability to liaise with government and other stakeholders – to collect data, communicate findings, and seek feedback iteratively.
Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically under pressure.
Proficiency in Marathi is a plus.

Salary and Benefits: INR 8,00,000 to INR 9,00,000 CTC

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

2. Senior Program Associate – Urban Resilience

About your role:

The WRI India Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities is seeking to fill a full-time position to advance our urban adaptation and resilience work in Mumbai. WRI globally, has deep experience in the urban development sector and is widely recognized as a leader in promoting sustainable cities. Currently, WRI India is supporting various government and private agencies to promote nature positive approach as part of their urban adaptation and resilience strategies. The urban resilience projects that you will be involved in, in Mumbai, will help further these goals.

The individual will liaise with government departments, agencies, co-ordinate with local institutions and partners, and work closely with staff from WRI India and consortium partners. The individual will also advance our policy and project related work in the domain of climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.

How your day will unfold:

The selected candidate will support the Sustainable Cities program at WRI India with the following:

Liaise with relevant line departments/ agencies/ parastatal organizations/ CSOs/ NGOs/ local media/ local research institutes in India for various deliverables under the project.
Coordinate with relevant government agencies to obtain required data
Lead, organize and conduct stakeholders’ consultations to invite inputs
Learn about existing planning policies at the city/state and national level for the same.
Assist in organizing events, exhibitions and workshops as needed in the program.
Participate in all external and/or internal meetings and stakeholders’ consultations from time to time and provide inputs, as necessary
Liaise / coordinate with the partner organizations or organizations working on the ground in the climate adaptation space.
Supervise / assist the research team working to develop subnational climate action strategies and data-driven pathways
Prepare technical reports for the assignment including data collection, mapping, conduct surveys, compilation, analysis and develop presentations.

Qualifications and Requirements we seek:
Post-graduate in the related field of urban planning, urban design, environmental planning, sustainable development etc.

At least 4 to 7 years of sectoral experience in the field of urban resilience
Demonstrated experience of working in Indian cities on urban adaptation and community based adaptation projects
Credible knowledge of Maharashtra state policies, programs and key stakeholders
Knowledge of relevant urban resilience initiatives and programs in India
Demonstrated experience in leading and/or contributing to interdisciplinary research projects on nature-based solutions, urban resilience, vulnerability assessments, community based adaptation and other related work
Strong communication skills, ability to liaise with government and other stakeholders – to collect data, communicate findings, and seek feedback iteratively
Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.
Mapping using GIS tools would be a plus.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
Ability to think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically under pressure
Proficiency in Marathi is a plus
