Aviral – Reducing Plastic Waste in the Ganga

This ongoing project is conducting pilot initiatives on solid waste management awareness & behavioral change in two Ganga cities in Uttarakhand, Haridwar and Rishikesh.

We are working to positively change how local residents & businesses, tourists & vendors, ashrams & schools, & government authorities deal with waste near and going into the Ganga.

Aviral is initiated & funded by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, in collaboration with the German development agency GIZ, and is being implemented by Saahas NGO, Saahas Zero Waste, and Waste Warriors Society.

What You Will Do in Rishikesh

Onground:

● Execute all field communications activities in Rishikesh under guidance of the Communications Director.

● Document champion stories, case studies, event activities, including write-ups, photos, & video testimonials.

● Ensure increased participation of communities, schools, and residents in project activities.

● Manage and grow the volunteer and ward whatsapp groups.

● Identify and reach out for potential collaborations in Rishikesh.

● Support with campaign planning and onground dissemination, and execution of onground events.

Digital:

● Source, draft and edit blog articles for the Aviral website based on team reports.

●  Support existing social media channels with engagement, analytics, content and video creation/editing.

CTC Rs. 25-30k per month, based on skills & experience.

What You Should Have:

● Strong writing & design background & portfolio on IEC, environment, waste management or similar.

● 3 years experience in development or communications work.

● Bachelor’s degree and above in Mass Comm, Journalism, Envr. Studies, or Social Work preferred.

● Regional knowledge & work experience in Uttarakhand preferred.

● Access to your own computer is absolutely necessary.

What You’re Great At:

Skills:

● English/Hindi writing & design.

● Multimedia content production.

● Experience in MS Office, Google Drive & Docs, social media (Instagram, Twitter etc.), & photo / videography (Reels, Shorts etc).

Abilities: ● Attention to detail for content, design, and audience.
