Project Coordinator – Waste Warriors Society

Waste Warriors Society We are a solid waste management NGO that works through a combination of direct action initiatives, awareness-raising and community engagement programs, local advocacy, and long-term collaborative partnership with various government bodies.

Our mission is

(1) to develop sustainable solid waste management systems by being a catalyst for community-based decentralized initiatives in rural, urban, and protected areas,

(2) to pioneer replicable models of waste management, innovative practices in awareness and education, and

(3) to formalize and improve the informal livelihoods and stigmatized conditions of waste workers.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Himachal Pradesh – Rural Waste Management

This project is a large awareness & engagement pilot initiative, focusing on solid waste collection, transportation & processing in two rural areas of Himachal Pradesh, Bir and Dharamshala.

Our teams here are positively changing how local villagers & businesses, tourists & vendors, ashrams & schools, & government authorities deal with waste in and around the Bir Billing & Dharamshala rural landscape.

Himachal Pradesh Rural Waste Management project is funded by multiple CSR initiatives for Rural Development in partnership with Waste Warriors Society who will be the implementation partner on the ground.

Roles and Responsibilities 

• Monitor all project activities, expenditures, and progress towards achieving the project output.
• Organise team meetings to explore solutions to challenges, and document and monitor developments.
• Planning, executing and managing small programs like clean-up / collection drives, and other Information Education Communication (IEC) activities.
• Implement awareness-raising and behavioral change programs in communities, events and institutions, by organising presentations and training sessions for community members.
• Recruit and manage a team of volunteers & interns to achieve the overall project goals.
• Assist in coordinating across all components of the project to ensure effective implementation and smooth day-to-day running of the project.
• Provide feedback to the outreach and project manager on outreach strategies and project activities.

JOB REQUIREMENT

• Be passionate about the environment and a cleaner India.
• 2+ years of experience in project coordination and monitoring project activities and outputs.
• A degree in environmental studies, social work etc would be preferred.
• Basic knowledge of solid waste management and eager to learn more.
• Willingness to work in the field extensively in difficult weather conditions.
• Must be able to speak English and Hindi fluently.
