Vasudha Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation working in the clean energy and climate policy space. Vasudha Foundation has an FCRA registration with the FCRA Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs and has 12A and 80G registration under the Income Tax Act. Vasudha Foundation works on multiple projects, funded by various philanthropic organisations.

Specific to this job role, Vasudha Foundation has entered into a strategic partnership with the Government of Gujarat and the Government of Tamil Nadu, with the purpose of developing Climate Smart Action Plans and decarbonisation strategies at the district level, covering major districts of the two states.

Hence, the role envisaged is of Policy Officers, who can provide data research and data analysis support in the preparation of the climate-smart action plans and decarbonisation strategies at the district levels of both the states.

DEPARTMENT: CLIMATE POLICY

Purpose of the Role:

  • Provide research and coordination support in data collection and collation necessary for the project in the respective states
  • Provide analytical support in analysing data and information collected and compiled from various government sources.
  • Liaison with Government Officials and other stakeholders at the State Capital and District Headquarters for data and information and other project-related tasks.
  • Provide desk research on various aspects of the project, specifically related to climate policy and clean energy.
  • Assist and facilitate stakeholder consultation and meetings of stakeholders with Senior Project leads as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

a) Coordination for State Level Work

  • Travel to Project Areas and do field work to support the project/vertical.
  • Support in seamless coordination with government departmentsLiaison with government department for data access/data collection
  • Set-up meetings and appointments with key bureaucrats/officials for project team(s) and follow-up
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders and strengthen the network
  • Provide technical support to senior bureaucrats in preparing talking points / PPTs etc. for subjects related to Vasudha’s work/projects
  • Provide support to all verticals of Vasudha (other than climate) for data collection/access

b) Research and Writing

  • Provide support in execution/research of the ongoing/upcoming projects of Vasudha in the state
  • Provide substantial inputs in preparing/developing written outputs such as project reports, summaries, working papers, other correspondence (emails/letters), meeting briefings, blogs for Vasudha Website etc.
  • Work various baseline assessments/analyses/calculations and support other team members.
  • Carry out thorough literature review for topics related to the ongoing projects/policy landscape/new developments in the field of climate and energy
  • Maintain databanks of data retrieved from websites/ government portals/published reports, key stakeholders etc
  • Provide input in developing data collection templates, surveys, questionnaire and analyse results.

c) Networking & Conferences

  • Provide support/preparatory activities in organizing Vasudha’s events/workshops/round-table meetings in the state
  • Represent Vasudha in meetings, conferences, workshops organized by other CSOs/stakeholders

Requirements:

  • A motivated, creative, independent individual with a passion for climate policy, energy domain and/or sustainability related issues with Master’s degree in the relevant subjects.
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Willing to travel extensively within the state and outside the state as and when required
  • Excellent research skills with a good understanding of reliable sources of information on climate change including: sectoral data, climate science, policy and regulation, reporting and disclosure, and legal frameworks.
  • Has a fair understanding of government departments/functioning. Experience of working/dealing with government departments would be preferred
  • Experience handling large data sets and good command over MS Office, experience with analytical and statistical tools will be a plus. Good data analysis skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and an ability to work collaboratively
  • Professionalism, ability to work as part of a team and independently, and ability to liaison with stakeholders, government and private partners among others
  • Good hold on vernacular language (Gujarati/Tamil) will be an added advantage
