Teach For India is a nationwide movement of leaders dedicated to providing an excellent education for all children. These include both Fellows, who commit two years to teaching low-income & under-resourced classrooms, as well as Staff teams, who bolster these efforts through strategic support & organizational direction.

Teach for India receives around 15000 Fellowship applications each year. The Selection Team is responsible for choosing all (and only) the right candidates for our kids. While we have had a strong model and monitoring system in place, we might need to revisit many of these systems with an anticipated revamp in our selection model as well. The Manager, Model Implementation will drive accurate and efficient implementation of the selection model, while also ensuring smooth systems for testing and piloting model changes, while ensuring a fair, consistent, and accurate outcome for all applicants at every stage of the process.

1. Monitoring and Evaluation Manager

Position Summary

What makes this role unique:

  • This role most directly impacts the selection funnel and through data analysis, systems and structures determine the accuracy of implementation of the selection model, course-correcting where necessary
  • Working towards reducing Type I and Type II errors through innovation, automation, and digitization
  • Work with a robust MnE system set over the past few years, while also evolving it in line with model changes and holding accountability of its implementation through the team, Reviewers and Selectors

Team Overview

The Fellowship Selection Team is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the best possible makeup of our cohort. We conduct research and analysis to design a selection model, which will lead us to efficiently identify those likely to be excellent teachers and impactful leaders. We design and run systems and processes that ensure efficient and accurate execution of this model across 8 cities in India. All this, by training and supporting over 200 Staff, Fellows and Alumni to execute their roles as interviewers and reviewers.

Outcomes are monitored and evaluated at each stage of our process to ensure all decisions are accurate and that every applicant has an experience, which is fair, consistent and leaves them as advocates of our movement. In short, we put teachers in classrooms who will transform the lives of every child they teach and who will, as Alumni work towards eliminating the wicked educational crisis in India. Our team is entering an exciting phase where we strive to maintain the stability of our operations while focusing on innovation and automation of our processes to prepare for scale and strong analysis to better measure the impact of our model.

Responsibilities

  • Enabling our team to effectively prepare for various stages of the selection process by making informed predictions
  • Studying the Applicant Pool Quality in each round to ensure the sustainability of our process – making data-driven recommendations to aid Recruitment & Selection Teams sense and adapt to changes.
  • Driving the team to ensure that each stage of the selection process is implemented within the set timeframe, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency of the decisions we make, via effective monitoring and evaluation systems (such as audits, checks, scrutiny, etc)
  • Studying the aforementioned decisions on an ongoing basis, to understand and contribute to the evolution of our process; making meaning of the model, documenting and communicating the learnings with the RSM teams consistently by means of reporting and analysis
  • Collaborating with Reviewer Training, Selector Training, and Model Development to ensure alignment in strategy and to maximize learnings and impact
  • Managing the data and Salesforce systems end to end from the application form to the transfer of final insights to the matriculation and training and impact teams
  • Ad-hoc data and analysis to explore problem statements that come up as a part of the implementation process
  •  Implementing the model through application reviews, phone interviews, and selecting at assessment centers
  •  Being a point of contact to Reviewers and Selectors and training and supporting them through the model implementation process
  • Problem-solving the various challenges which arise during the selection process through the design and implementation of strategic solutions that are both immediate and sustainable long-term
  • Being an ambassador and advocate for the team internally and externally

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Graduate (any field) with 3+ years of work experience, with exposure to data analytics
  • The belief that every child deserves an excellent education and that every single child has the ability to be successful academically whatever their background.
  • Exceptional English language communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets from varied sources (both quantitative and qualitative), drawing conclusions, and identifying appropriate next steps.
  • End-to-end project management experience (from vision setting to execution).
  • A background in research and analysis, statistical modeling, data visualization, or advanced data management systems

Preferred Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Proven ability to conduct research and analysis (data/evidence gathering, analysis and interpretation, hypotheses framing, validation, and presentation) with rigor and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on data visualization, so as to be able to drive team communication based on hard facts and grounded actionable.
  • Project management skills and ability to manage complex projects with many moving parts and stakeholders, ensuring high-quality outcomes in a tight timeframe.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, which enable you to build meaningful relationships with diverse others and invest them in a role or purpose, and a focus on collaborating to reach outcomes with teams across the programmatic continuum and beyond.
  • Building relationships with and facilitating ongoing training and support to Staff, Fellows, and Alumni involved in the selection process to ensure efficient and accurate implementation of our model.

2. Consultant, Research and Analysis

Vision for the Role:

As part of the Selection Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Director and the Model Development Lead as part of the revamp of the Fellowship Selection Model and help make the best decisions for the model using data. Your core responsibilities would include extensive quantitative and qualitative research, generating and testing hypotheses ongoing, data analysis and insight generation. The role will also require design of pilots for the model, project management and monitoring and evaluation of their effectiveness. There will be collaboration between the other verticals on the team in order to effectively design a holistic selection model and process.

Responsibilities

  • Co-designing and implementing a long term research and analysis program to ensure our selection model leads us to efficiently identify those applicants likely to be excellent teachers and leaders of our movement
  • Churning out data insights post analysis, discovering trends and patterns, turning the raw data into valuable insights, using state of the art features to mine data
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting findings in a manner that is clear, easy and exciting for stakeholders to deeply engage with
  • Designing and implementing pilots based on the insights generated through rapid iterations through the year
  • Collaborating with and investing key stakeholders – including staff (Training and Impact/Program, etc.), Fellows, Alumni and external partners – in the selection process and the role they have to play in ensuring we are efficient and accurate in our evaluation of applicants
  • Co-designing systems and processes which ensure we can implement the selection model and meet our vision and goals efficiently, with accuracy and in a way is sustainable
  • Monitoring and tracking effectiveness and impact of the model while holding the quality conversation and co-arriving at quality indicators with the training team
  • Problem solving the various challenges which arise during the selection process through the design and implementation of strategic solutions which are both immediate and sustainable long-term

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Graduate with 2+ years of work experience (preference for BA. Psychology with quantitative ability, background in HR analytics/hiring, testing and evaluation, market research)
  • Exceptional English language communication skills – both written and verbal
  • End-to-end project management experience (from vision setting to execution)
  • A background in research and data analysis, proficient in MS Office/Google suite (such as PowerPoint or google slides)
  • Belief that every child deserves an excellent education and that every single child has the ability to be successful academically whatever their background

Preferred Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • A curiosity to understand, deep dive and derive big and small insights from large volumes of qualitative and quantitative data; high levels of ownership to initiative and explore ongoing and ad hoc research questions
  • Strong applied statistical skills such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, experience with SPSS and other statistical tools
  • Experience or interest in working with data science toolkits such as R, Python, Matlab, etc.
  • Data visualization skills and experience working with tools such as Tableau, etc.
  • Project management skills and ability to manage complex projects with many moving parts and stakeholders, ensuring high quality outcomes in a tight timeframe.
  • Great communication skills for communicating insights in the most accurate and effective way
