The St. John’s Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John’s has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health.

In 2000, the Academy decided that its commitment to excellence in research required the setting up of an Institute that was dedicated to the pursuit of research and capacity development in St. John’s. This vision encompassed improvement of health of the community and patients through research and development of a Center for Excellence in medical research in India.

Brief Description about the Project:

Vitamin D intervention trial during pregnancy. The pregnant women attending the OPD at St John’s medical college hospital will receive 2 different dosage of Vitamin D supplement. To evaluate whether a daily supplement of an effective dose of 2000 IU/d vitamin D3 reduces the incidence of preterm births when compared to the pregnant women supplemented with the standard care 500 IU/d vitamin D3.

They will be followed up during pregnancy for outcome measure such as preterm.

Preferred Qualifications: BSW/ MSW / BSc. life sciences

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment of study participants,
  • Data collection and follow up until the study period.
  • Home visits, handing over supplement, compliance recording.
  • Reporting day-to-day activities to the study JRF, PI & CO- PI
  • Screening the study participants and Basic data collection on SES, anthropometry, diet, and morbidity.
  • Conduct home visits and telephonic calls for the follow-up of the study subjects.
  • Basic knowledge to use computers and willing to learn more to use database for data entry and analysis
  • Report the day-to-day activities to the JRF of the study. Channelizing the recruitment & follow-up.
  • Maintaining regime log and other study details.
  • The working hours are from morning 9.00am to 5.00pm, may need to come in early or leave late at times depending in the workload.
