SELCO Foundation is a not for profit organisation established in 2010 that engages in field-based R&D and ecosystem building for the deployment of clean energy and built environment solutions that alleviate poverty in tribal, rural and urban poor areas. The organisation works in collaboration with practitioners in the social sector, NGOs, and governments to alleviate poverty.

Job Description: The built environment team within the SELCO foundation works across a large spectrum of projects looking at infrastructure needs for the poor. The program types range from housing, livelihoods, healthcare and other public institutions.

The Quantity Surveyor will require to have expert knowledge of construction costs management and contracts management and manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures

Position: QS Engineer (full time)
Team: Built Environment
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka
Starting date: Immediately
Minimum work experience: 7-8 years

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Analysing existing budgets and reviewing plans
  • Preparing quantity estimates and bill of quantities for projects including material, maintenance, labour etc costs based on market rates and schedule of rates
  •  Analyse and study the market rates for the products and create vendor/product rate comparisons
  • Support the procurement team in processes from tendering, award, monitoring etc
  • Preparing reports, analyses, contracts, budgets, risk assessment, and other documents.
  • Bench-mark projects costs, ROI and prepare the life-cycle plan.
  • Managing the finances for construction projects and making them cost-effective
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with vendors, suppliers, distributors.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in quantity surveying, engineering, management, or similar.
  • Construction estimating or finance experience is a must
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction.
  • Excellent negotiating and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organise, plan, and strategize.
  • Great networking abilities.
  • Ability to stay motivated when working independently
  • Ability to structure, track and monitor tasks and their progress
  • Experience in Quality Management is a plus
