Programme Director, Baduku – Samvada

Samvada, established in 1992, has been sensitizing, supporting, empowering and mobilizing  young people towards building a just, inclusive and sustainable society. Our work comprises 4  main program verticals as follow:

• SAHAYANA (since 1994) is a programme that focuses on Youth Sensitization, Empowerment,  Livelihood planning, Leadership Building and Youth Actions. Through a collective of 5  Youth Resource Centres across Karnataka, youth leaders are nurtured and mentored to  take collective actions for deepening democracy and initiating social change.

• BADUKU (since 2008) is a livelihood learning programme that equips disadvantaged youth  to enter and influence socially critical Professions that can promote gender equity,  pluralism, sustainability, wellness and social justice.

• Centre for Promotion of Youth Work and Youth Rights (since 2012) promotes youth focussed  interventions, trains youth workers and supports youth rights advocacy.

• KANAJA Youth Research Cell (since 2018) creates and disseminates knowledge about youth,  youth hood and youth work.

Programme Director, Baduku Centre for Livelihoods Learning

Role : The Programme Director of Baduku will lead the team of Baduku faculty and Baduku  administrative staff to attain Baduku objectives of (I) enabling disadvantaged youth to enter  and to grow in socially critical professions (ii) enabling creation of new professions to  address emerging social needs (iii) creation of young professionals with knowledge,  perspectives, skills and values to contribute towards social and ecological justice and (iv) equipping disadvantaged young people to earn a dignified livelihood with a living wage and  workplace rights

Responsibilities 

  • To build Baduku as brand that is offering higher education that integrates knowledge  with skills, vocational training with education, perspectives with values, and self with  society.
  • To lead the Baduku team in developing 3 year strategic plans and Budgets for Baduku in line with Baduku vision and changing contemporary realities of youth and society
  • To raise financial resources for Baduku from institutional donors / corporates/ family  philanthropies / individuals who appreciate Baduku goals, values and mission and strategic plans through dialogue, submission of proposals, negotiation of contracts and  manage financial resources raised for Baduku
  • To guide and support Baduku faculty to conduct market feasibility studies in  collaboration with external consultants/experts to explore employment/self employment /entrepreneurship opportunities emerging in socially critical  professions/domains
  • To guide Baduku faculty teams to develop and implement outreach strategies so that  appropriate candidates receive information about courses that Baduku offers
  • To guide Baduku faculty teams to design selection criteria and conduct selection  processes so that the appropriate candidates from most marginalised communities and  regions are admitted
  • To guide and support Baduku faculty teams to develop curriculum based on course  objectives and to get curriculum suggestions through Board of Studies formed for  each course
  • To build networks with colleges and industry for course accreditations and course  collaborations that will enhance the quality, credibility and value of Baduku courses
  • To monitor course delivery to ensure courses are conducted on time and with  adherence to objectives, curriculum, timetables and targets
  • To oversee student placements and efforts to sustain and support Baduku alumni
  • To create a culture of dialogue, critical reflection, collaboration and sharing among  Baduku faculty with and across course teams and larger Samvada team
  • To periodically assess outcomes and impacts of Baduku on individual students,  alumni and on professions
  • To monitor and To identify, recruit and induct Baduku faculty members with required  knowledge skills, sensitivity to youth and values
  • To oversee capacity building of Baduku team to enhance Baduku’s effectiveness and  impact
  • To create and maintain systems for smooth functioning of Baduku from outreach to  impact assessment
  • To prepare Baduku reports that can be sent to donors and to external stakeholders  based on data and project indicators in a manner that captures Baduku activities,  outputs, outcomes and impacts and maintain relationship with donors
  • To represent Baduku in public fora

MEMBER OF Organisation Management team 

The OMT is a forum for discussion on organisational matters and a space for decision  making, collective ownership, responsibility and accountability. OMT of Samvada comprises  all Heads of Departments/ Programmes and 2 senior staff of Samvada and the Programme  Director of Baduku is therefore a part of the OMT.

The OMT meets once a week to review organisational progress, review and programmes and  to discuss organisational issues and challenges that are beyond any specific department. The  four OMTs each month will focus on (i) Programmes (ii) Finance (iii) HR and (iv Admin and  infrastructure. Once the Head of Department/Programme presents the report, OMT members  will provide feedback and suggestions. Each OMT meeting will also dedicate time to address  urgent concerns raised by ED and Heads of Departments/Programmes

OMT is accountable to the Trustees, staff and beneficiaries of Samvada as the team which  guides organisational management decisions. Decisions in OMT will be by consensus and  when there is ambiguity the final authority lies with the ED.

Qualifications, Competencies and Experience Required 

  • Masters or PhD. in Social Sciences or Humanities
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in managing Educational Programmes for  marginalised youth
  • Ability to read and write English and Kannada
  • Commitment to social inclusion, gender justice, pluralism and ecological sustainability
  • Experience of managing teams with 15-20 experienced staff
  • Experience of creating learning interventions for young adults, designing curriculum  to fulfill course objectives, liaison with resource persons and potential employers
  • An understanding of the livelihood dilemmas of disadvantaged youth
  • Experience of teaching and mentoring youth
  • An ability to build networks with organisations for students selection and student  placement

Remuneration 

CTC will be in range of 75,000/- to 80,000/- per month depending on experience
