The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a national centre for information, education and research in ornithology and natural history in India. It was inspired by and named in honour of Salim Ali, the leading pioneer of ornithology in India. It is an autonomous organisation established in 1990 as a public- NGO partnership between the MoEF&CC, and the Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS) under the Centre of Excellence Scheme and registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act. Its headquarters are at Anaikatti, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. SACON is associated with the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) wishes to engage a Programme Fellow – NOD Cell (Indian National only) on contract for a period of one year. The details of the available position along with essential, desirable qualifications, experience and how to apply are given below :-

Details:

No. of Position : ONE

Duration : ON CONTRACT FOR ONE YEAR, extendable based on the performance and requirements.

Emoluments: Rs. 25,000/- (Consolidated) per month.

NO OTHER ALLOWANCES APPLICABLE.

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in any branch of life sciences/environmental/ecological sciences

Desirable Qualification:

 i) Knowledge of database applications and experience in working with biodiversity databases,

(ii) Familiarity with Indian birds, ornithology, & eBird data,

(iii) Good skill in science communication in English and

(iv) Working knowledge in Computer on MS-Office.

Prescribed Age limit: Upper age shall not exceed 30 years as on closing date of application.

The Upper age limit prescribed shall be relaxed as given below as per Govt. of India rules:-

  • 03 years for OBC, 05 years for SC/ST.
  • Upto the age of 35 years for widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who are not remarried (Upto 40 years for SC/ST).
  • Age may be relaxed to the candidates possessing extremely higher qualifications and experience in the relevant field.

Description of Work: The Programme Fellow is expected to assist the Coordinator, NOD Cell to achieve the following tasks:

  • To collect, organize, curate, and publish data on Indian ornithology,
  • to update and maintain ornithological data-portal and the interface between data resources and user community,
  • to maintain NOD Cell as the single-window clearinghouse for all queries and searches for information on any aspects of Indian ornithology,
  • to prepare and publish periodical reports on the status and progress of the NOD Cell and other proposed technical serials and
  • to develop proposals to expand the activities of NOD Cell and to raise additional funds to sustain its activities.
