FRA State Coordinator – Sahjeevan

Sahjeevan’s work over the past two decades has focused on an ambitious programme aimed at addressing the many challenges faced by pastoral communities. While this work has long focused on Kutch, Sahjeevan is now expanding its work into Saurashtra, Rajasthan, the Himalayas, and other geographies. Sahjeevan’s work has a variety of dimensions, including work on livelihoods linked to the market linkages and creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurial ecosystems across the milk, and wool value chain. Conserving pastoral breeds, grassland restoration and improving pastoralists access to grazing lands by facilitating appropriate institutional mechanism Sahjeevan is seeking to hire a FRA State Coordinator with an interest in advancing Sahjeevan’s
programs and research.

Qualifications/Experience

• Master’s degree in the social sciences / law / Development with minimum 5 years of experience.
• Good communication skills, particularly in writing
• Previous experience working with or researching the Forest Rights Act will be preferred.
• Familiarity with pastoralism would be a major plus
• Strong writing and communication skills and ability to synthesise material with language proficiency in English / Hindi / Gujarati
• Experience interacting with multiple levels of stakeholders (preferably Government) on forest rights or other rights-based issues
• Managerial experience, preferably within civil society
• Ability to network with a range of actors

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualizing, operationalizing and overseeing the program;
• Coordinating with the field team for project implementation at grassroot levels;
• Training and Capacity Building of the stakeholders;
• Liasioning with the government officials at Taluka and District levels;
• Generating progress reports, and undertaking documentation related to Sahjeevan’s work

Based in Upleta, Rajkot Gujarat. The candidate would be required to travel significantly across the district.

Compensation: Suitable candidates will be offered compensation depending upon the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
