Room to Read Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read is creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality through education. We are achieving this goal by helping children in historically low-income communities develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and by supporting girls as they build life skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions. We collaborate with governments and other partner organizations to deliver positive outcomes for children at scale. Room to Read has benefited more than 39 million children and has worked in 23 countries and in more than 182,000 communities, providing additional support through remote solutions that facilitate learning beyond the classroom. Room to Read aims to benefit 40 million children by 2025.

Location: Remote but must be able to commute to San Francisco.

The Opportunity  

As the fundraising associate, you’ll play a key role in helping Room to Read’s North America team to meet its annual goal of receiving $13-$15M in donations. Using your exceptional people skills, you’ll focus on business development through cultivating new relationships and stewarding and growing existing relationships. Your additional contributions will be tracking and analyzing market and donor data, composing and editing proposals and other donor communications, and coordinating fundraising events such as the annual gala. This position reports to the Development Director of North America.

If you have demonstrated success in obtaining donations in the $5,000 to $25,000 range, are skilled in analyzing market and donor data, and have outstanding writing, editing and communication ability, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do: 

Fundraising (35%)

  • Reach an annual goal of $500,000 by cultivating relationships with both new and existing donors.
  • Build long-term relationships with donors and prospects in the $5K-$25K range, identifying, cultivating and stewarding their interests.
  • Deepen donors’ commitment to Room to Read by developing long-term retention strategies.
  • Develop a pipeline of individual and corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Recommend potential funding opportunities to donors by staying current with organizational strategies and program details and plans.
  • Support the Director in managing the portfolio of a colleague on parental leave between January-April 2024.

Donor Communication (30%) 
Write and edit clear, compelling materials including donor briefings and correspondence, concept notes, letters of inquiry, proposals, Board presentations, reports, and additional materials as needed, either independently or in collaboration with the Director.

Data Management and Analysis (20%) 
Analyze the market and track donor trends to assist in developing strategies, market plans, using Salesforce CRM and other data analysis tools.
 
Other (15%) 
Assist with events in the NA region including fundraising galas, virtual events boutique donor gathering, and other team activities.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated record of obtaining donations in the $5,000 to $25,000 range.
  • Ability to cultivate both new and existing donor relationships with individuals, family foundations and/or corporations.
  • Excellent ability to analyze market trends and donor data using Salesforce NPSP, Excel, and other data analysis tools.
  • Proven skill in crafting compelling donor communications and ability to proofread and edit.
  • Prior success coordinating major fundraising events, such as galas.
  • Adept at using pivot tables and graphs in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Canva.
  • Ability and desire to travel as needed.

We Offer: 
 
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $63,000 to $76,000. Compensation may vary depending on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, skill set, and relevant education or certifications.
