Centre for Science and Environment, a non-profit institution known for its rigorous and scientific policy research and advocacy on environmental issues, is looking for a social-media manager/head for content dissemination.

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India’s leading public policy research institution, is looking for candidates for its sustainable industrialization team. The team works on various agendas for improved industrialization like decarbonization, waste circularity and environmental governance to develop roadmaps and assist the stakeholders in the implementation of various developed strategies. The team is looking to expand their capacity in various other domains and thus for looking for candidates to join their group.

1. Social Media Manager for Centre for Science and Environment

The selected candidate will be responsible for growing and maintaining presence on existing and new social media channels, use their potential to tell stories differently and reach them to a wider audience.

S/he is expected to: 

  • Drive usage and engagement for Down To Earth website on social media.
  • Curate and manage Down To Earth and CSE’s existing social media channels and build presence on new channels.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute social media campaigns.
  • Engage audience with our domain through creatives, audio-visuals and interactive.
  • Innovate and find opportunities and new avenues on social media.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Engaging social media content, including reels, images, and videos – suitable for the various social media platforms, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in social media content creation.
  • Monitor and analyze social media metrics to track the success of campaigns and make recommendations for improvement.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of experience in managing social media and online communication — must have technical skills as well as the ability to create and manage content.
  • Proven experience as a Social Media Content Creator or a similar role.
  • Deep knowledge of social media trends, hashtags, and engagement strategies.
  • Ideating on the content calendar with the creative team. The social media person will be looked upon to provide on-point insights into social content trends.
  • Understanding of how to position content on social media platforms for maximum impact and draw new users.
  • Good writing and editing skills in English and Hindi.
  • Experience in journalism will be given preference.

2. Programme Officer – Industrial Pollution Programme

Job profile

The candidate is expected to support policy research, advocacy, communication and capacity building around the programme. The job will entail but not limited to

  • Researching and writing for policy papers;
  • Travelling for ground surveys, meetings, workshops and similar activities;
  • Developing strategies for various environmental issues;
  • Reporting developments on relevant issues in CSE’s magazine Down To Earth;
  • Interacting with stakeholders such as policy makers, regulators, media, industry, civil society organizations;
  • Participating in relevant conferences, workshops
  • Conducting capacity building programmes for various stakeholders;

The candidate should be open to extensive travelwherever required.The candidate should have strong research and analytical skills along with a flair for writing both technical reports and articles. The candidate should be hard working, self-motivated and disciplined.

Qualification and experience

3. Programme Officer for Climate Change Programme

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE does research and advocacy for the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable. 

About the Programme 

CSE has led the discourse in climate policy for over three decades advocating for equity, the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities, and investing in resilient economies for the poor. CSE’s Climate Change Programme is committed to championing the study of the most pressing issues related to the climate crisis. Our presence at UNFCCC proceedings such as COP summits and Subsidiary Body meetings, public outreach and advocacy, media engagement and training programmes are designed to create multipliers in society for climate action.

Duties and responsibilities

We are looking for an individual who will be an integral member of the Climate Change team, reporting to the Programme Manager. The candidate will provide research support in a range of thematic areas such greenhouse gas mitigation, climate finance, fossil fuels, carbon markets, trade and climate linkages, and other themes relevant for climate policy at the multilateral and domestic levels. The candidate must be interested in policy analysis, and also in outreach methods such as writing, webinars, training programmes, and network-building. Publications are an essential aspect of our research-based advocacy, and the candidate is required to dive deep into critical and unbiased analysis on the varied dimensions of climate change.

Qualification and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in climate change, natural resource management, environmental science/law/economy, international relations, public policy, development studies, economics, or other relevant fields.
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of relevant working experience, including in-depth knowledge of climate change policies, programmes, and good practices.
  • Ideally experienced in the policy, writing and practice of international climate change negotiations specifically the UNFCCC. Familiarity with proceedings at multilateral bodies such as the WTO, World Bank, and IMF will be helpful.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills in Microsoft Excel or other platforms required.
  • Excellent demonstrated writing skills and fluency in English is required, coupled with an active interest in disseminating research via short articles or blogs.
  • Understanding of the climate needs of developing countries and the Global South is required.
  • Experience in reporting on organizational or program impacts considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an international organization will be considered an asset.
  • Substantial record of research and publications with an emphasis on environmental and climate change management and sustainable development, including non-scientific communications.

Director – Laboratory : Environment

4. Monitoring, Centre For Science and Environment

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is one of Asia’s leading research and advocacy organization working in the field of environment protection. CSE has set up a state-of-the-art laboratory for pollution monitoring, septage management and food contamination. The laboratory is situated at CSE’s residential campus at Nimli, Alwar, Rajasthan – about 100 km from Delhi and 60 km from Gurugram.

The Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments for microbiology analysis and for the monitoring and analysis of air, water and food contamination, including Gas Chromatograph with Mass Detector (GC-MS) High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), CHNS analyser, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Bomb Calorimeter etc. 

Job profile

Work of the laboratory is divided into three core areas:

  1. Faecal Sludge/ Septage management: This includes characterization of Faecal Sludge/ Septage, monitoring of decentralized wastewater/ faecal sludge treatment systems, conducting cutting-edge research on decentralized treatment technologies and providing knowledge support to analysts and technologists in the field of Faecal Sludge/ Septage characterization and management.
  2. Pollution monitoring: This includes monitoring of air, water, noise and radiation pollution in ambient and at point source. One of the new areas of work for the laboratory is to validate sensor-based pollution monitoring technologies
  3. Food contamination: This includes testing of toxins and contamination in food commodities. The lab also supports promotion of organic food.

The lab is also involved in conducting training on laboratory procedures and practices.

The head of the laboratory will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of the activities of the laboratory. She/he must have the proven leadership ability to mentor and work with the senior colleagues in all three core areas. The successful candidate must have an excellent interpersonal and service delivery skills.

She/he will report directly to the Director General. 

Qualification and experience

The head of the laboratory should have expertise in at least one of the core areas and working knowledge in the other two areas.

  • She/he must have strong computer skills and the ability to learn and become proficient with other appropriate software systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, which includes technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience working with laboratory data/information management systems or laboratory database would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) and experience in certification processes (ISO/NABL etc.) is mandatory.

The candidate should have a Doctorate Degree in the disciplines of Chemistry/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Chemical Engineering and Technology/ Environmental Sciences/ Public Health Engineering/ Environmental Engineering with at least 20 years of hands-on work exposure in a similar or related capacity. 

We are also looking for Senior Lab scientists to work as Advisors for the Lab. Retired Professors can also apply.

The residential campus has accommodation facility for staff who wish to stay without families. Staff may also choose to live nearby. CSE provides shuttle service for picking up and dropping from Gurugram and nearby areas to the Nimli campus. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
