Alohomora Education Foundation is a registered ‘not­ for ­profit’​ organization focusing on building agency of young adults to take charge of their own education and make well-informed career choices aligned to their strengths and interests. We are institutionalising career guidance at scale to ensure every child has access to support to transition out of 12th grade with a plan, while they are in school. We work closely with UNICEF’s Project Yuwaah, the Govt of Delhi and the District administration & Education department of Jhajjar, Haryana & Haridwar, Uttarakhand to support more than 3 Lakh students each year. We are looking to grow our impact rapidly over the next few years.

Alohomora Education Foundation is enabling the ecosystem around young people to enable informed career decisions at scale. We work closely with UNICEF’s Project Yuwaah, the Govt of Delhi and the District administration & Education department of Jhajjar, Haryana & Haridwar, Uttarakhand to support more than 3 Lakh students each year. We are looking to grow our impact rapidly over the next few years. We have recently been selected to be part of the EdumentumX initiative of Shikshalokam to scale our district level initiatives.

1. Sr. Associate/ Manager (Teacher Training) -Large Scale Project

Project background: At Alohomora, we believe every young person should have the opportunity to know a diversity of careers and make a choice aligned with their strengths and interests. There would be a strong systematic investment for the program amongst teachers and education officials and we are looking to deepen our work in the district and create strong proof points of our impact.

About the role: If you are someone who loves facilitating large groups, working closely with teachers, has sharp observation and reflective skills, and wants to work towards leading implementation of solutions for a complex large-scale social problem – then this role is for you.

You will work closely with the district administration and closely support the government school teachers to equip them to support students to explore a diversity of careers and make informed choices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be dynamic leaving a substantial scope to take initiative and leave your own mark.

Broad Areas of Responsibility:
1. Project planning: Support in creating an implementation plan keeping in mind Alohomora’s mission, holding the view of Alohomora’s purpose in the partnership throughout the implementation phase.

2. Project Implementation: Oversee that the idea behind the program design and resources is being implemented in the school with the students by the teachers through various monitoring activities, block and district levels events etc. Ensure collection of periodic monitoring and evaluation data and insights from the ground.

3. Teacher Capacity Building: Conduct teacher capacity building workshops, observe and debrief their work in their schools and provide ongoing problem-solving support via telecommunication, whatsapp etc.

4. Managing Stakeholder Relations: Work closely with the District administration and the Education Department, to leverage their support in achieving program goals. Build relations with industry and community stakeholders of the district to bring opportunities for students

5. Document learning and impact: Document learnings from your experience on the project that Alohomora may leverage for future work and share insights with the rest of the team. Support with creating reports documenting our work and impact.

What we are looking for:

  • Sr. Associate: Either a leadership fellowship, Master in Education/Social Work or a couple of years of relevant experience in the development sector.

Manager: A couple of years of relevant experience along with full-time fellowships or masters in relevant fields.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to plan and engage with strategic stakeholders, and work with a large group of adult learners as well as coach individual teachers to improve student learning.
  • Excitement to work on the field and travel within the district
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking to navigate a complex and sometimes uncertain environment.
  • Strong drive to work independently in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment.
  • High openness and learning orientation to learn rapidly, adapt to changing courses of action, and willingness to take on multiple tasks during implementation.

Location – Indore, Bhopal and Dewas ( Madhya Pradesh) & Haridwar (Uttarakhand)

Compensation – Sr. Associate: 4.2 – 6 LPA, Manager: 6-7 LPA

  • Document learning and impact: Document learnings from your experience on the project that Alohomora may leverage for future work and share insights with the rest of the team. Support with creating reports documenting our work and impact.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Ensure collection of periodic monitoring and evaluation data and insights from the ground.

What we are looking for:

  • Sr. Associate : Either a leadership fellowship, Master in Education/Social Work or a couple of years of relevant experience in the development sector.

Manager : A couple of years of work experience in the development sector post a leadership fellowship/Masters and willingness to take on a leadership role.

3. Sr. Associate/ Manager: Partnerships

As AEF’s partnerships manager, you will own the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of our communication strategy towards our key stakeholders – young people, educators, policy makers, parent and donor community. You will pursue leads and build both financial and non-financial partnerships for us across the ecosystem. This role is critical to take our vision to lakhs of young people across India
and garner support for our mission.

Note: Based on your skills and experience, this role may have different levels from Sr. Associate to Manager. We encourage you to apply if you’re excited about our mission, even if your compensation expectations are different from what we have shared.

About the role: You would be taking Alohomora’s story and mission to the world with an aim to popularise our CareerShala framework, maximise outreach, build networks, and raise funds. You will work directly with the founders to strategize and execute our advocacy and fundraising efforts.

This role is for you if you are a

  • People’s person – Loves fostering and maintaining relationships with others
  • Master storyteller – Ability to craft compelling narratives to inspire and influence stakeholders. Excellent listening, written & verbal communication skills to create stakeholder-specific media
  • Key strategist – Ability to strategize and plan our advocacy/campaign efforts, and identify the right funding partners and ensure strong synergies with them

Broad Areas of Responsibility:
1. Building Partnerships

a. Identify and source partnership opportunities through research, connections & inbound lead follow-up for both funding and other forms of collaborations with government, other NGOs etc.

b. Research potential partners to design communication for them and pursue the partnership towards closure.

c. Work with team leads within AEF to create partnership objectives based on internal goals and partner expectations.

d. Create a systematic, process-driven approach to nurture partnerships including creating avenues for them to experience AEF’s work, having regular check-ins and creating reports.

2. Amplifying our story

a. Create campaigns for different stakeholders with the intention of spreading AEF’s stories as inspiration. Identify appropriate platforms for these stories to be shared – social media, print media, radio, speaking events, etc

b. Consolidate our impact stories and find avenues for sharing our work including long form articles, editorials, academic essays etc

c. Strategise & organise events such as promotional launches, think spaces with partners, workshops, outreach events, etc

Preferred education and experience

  • Graduate/post graduate in any stream, preferably related to social sciences, humanities, education, development communication, mass communication, marketing. We encourage applicants with teaching/education fellowships to apply
  • Demonstrated excellence in fundraising, report/proposal writing, partnership building and/or relationship management through full time work or through leadership experiences in college.
  • Understanding of the development sector and its ecosystem of stakeholders.

Mindsets and skills

  • Willing to commit at least 2 years to build our partnerships function.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise, track, and manage a variety of tasks to deliver results. Good at multitasking and simultaneously managing multiple projects
  • Disposition to maintain positive energy and perseverance in face of delay, rejections and rigorous follow ups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to contextualise content, mode and style of communication according to the target audience
  • Basic understanding of social media & user groups, data analysis, including social media analytics to monitor and evaluate engagement across social media channels
  • Proficiency in the MS Office toolkit such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word and design apps such as Canva

Role Background:
Impact means something different for different stakeholders. It’s important to be able to capture and study ongoing data to ensure the program is progressing as per plan, take meaningful decisions on program design and also evaluate effectiveness of the intervention;
and also capture and communicate impact at a human level.

  • What does our program mean for the stakeholders involved? This is the question we need to think about and answer for each important stakeholder.
  • What would be happening which would make us as a team see and feel that the program is delivering on its promise? What would a Govt stakeholder want to see – are we capturing and communicating that? What does our funder expect? How might ‘impact’ expectations change by geography and project?
  • While the program remains the same, as we grow (and want to grow further) we need to ensure that we are setting up strong processes and practices in place . And we are also capturing and communicating the essence of impact at a human level.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support in developing our monitoring design and its tools for the program cycles across different projects. This will include learning from industry best practices, and brainstorming with training and execution teams to understand what would work best for us for both collection of data as well as analysis and dissemination of it for internal decision making and learning.
  • Support in strengthening our baseline and endline tools across our programs including alumni support work to ensure effective collection of data to showcase our impact. This also includes identifying the best data collection & analysis technology for our context.
  • Managing the end to end data collection & cleaning process by onboarding and training interns, consultants, team members etc based on need.
  • Analyze incoming data, create reports and work closely with a) training & execution team to ensure understanding and usage of data in ongoing program implementation b) communications/ fundraising/ founders to report data to external
    audiences including donor reports, grant applications etc c) design team to ensure continuous programmatic improvements.
  • Collect and share proof points of impact based on your own observations via regular field visits and discussions with team members.
  • Support other aspects of program design and training as per need.

Who we are looking for:

  • Sr. Associate: Either a leadership fellowship, Master in Education/Social Work or a couple of years of relevant experience in the development sector.
  • Excellent understanding of the context of youth in india- how they think, speak and what they want. An understanding of curriculum development for adolescents will be a benefit.
  • Good aptitude for numbers and data analysis.
  • An interest in learning about research methodologies, designing survey tools etc.
  • Excellent communication (English and Hindi) and facilitation skills to plan and engage with strategic stakeholders.
  • Excitement to work on the field and gather stories of change.
  • Strong drive to work independently in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment.
  • High openness and learning orientation to learn rapidly, adapt to changing courses of action, and willingness to take on multiple tasks during implementation.
