WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • We are looking for a Director of Government and Public Affairs (GPA) for India to support Nike’s business in one of Asia’s most dynamic and fast-paced countries.

  • Nike’s interactions and engagement with government leaders and policymakers in a creative and strategic manner on a variety of complex issues impacting our business success and long-term interests in India. The role is expected to bring thought leadership and partnership as a trusted advisor to teams in GPA, SEAI, APLA, Supply Chain and others.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

The GPA team creates, strengthens and sustains key relationships with policy makers, opinion leaders, industry associations, community leaders and a host of global and local stakeholders to responsibly shape the policy landscape. As NIKE changes the future of sport, the GPA team powers and protects the enterprise’s competitive advantage across our value chain – marketplace, supply chain and accelerating functions.

The GPA Director for India will be responsible for developing, planning and executing offensive and defensive strategies that help NIKE navigate the complex business landscape in India and cultivate relationships with the government and other stakeholders.

You will lead in NIKE’s interactions and engagement with policymakers and government leaders at the national and local levels, regulatory agencies as well as industry/business associations, in a creative and strategic manner on a variety of issues impacting our business in India.

  • The Director of GPA in India will be accountable for driving public policy related to NIKE’s Next% Strategy, with a specific focus on digital marketplace and e-commerce, supply chain, brand protection, trade, tax and sustainability.
  • In partnership with relevant business partners, you will also ensure that NIKE is well positioned and represented with government on broader issues affecting manufacturing such as industrial policy, infrastructure development, labor and industrial relations, energy, community engagement and reputation management.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

You will report to the Vice President GPA APLA based in Singapore and work very closely with Nike India Marketplace, Supply Chain, Legal, IP/Privacy and other functional leads covering India. You will also work with relevant subject matter experts at global/regional levels to identify priorities and develop policy positions for NIKE in India.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 10 years’ work experience in government and public affairs in corporate or public sectors or both. Business, International Relations or Economics background with sound understanding of corporate strategy and experience in consumer/retail sectors are preferred.
  • Firm understanding of the political/regulatory landscape and how governments work. Sensitivity to and awareness of geopolitics with proven ability to advise local business and global teams with sound judgement from an enterprise perspective.
  • Proven ability to support business through fast growth and rapid transformation with strong knowledge of digital marketplace and ability to navigate through related policy issues such as data privacy and intellectual property rights, as well as knowledge on manufacturing, trade policy, sustainability and tax.
  • Resourceful and innovative, with capacity for insights and ability to spot policy trends/ issues. Proven success in adapting to uncertain and unpredictable situations, as well as ambiguous environments.
  • Strong team player, with proven success in communicating, influencing, and leading effectively within a highly matrixed, global organization, specifically during times of crisis.
  • Mature, independent and confident and able to think strategically and work well under pressure. Have gravitas in representing Nike in front of senior government/business leaders.
  • Unblemished track record of ethics and compliance.
  • Role is based in New Delhi with regular travel to Bangalore. Candidate must be effectively bilingual in English and Tamil/Hindi with strong interpersonal and communications skills.
