Job Description
NRDC is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our India team. In this role, the consultant will support execution of our energy efficiency and cooling projects in India. The consultant will work closely with the rest of the India Program team, as well as our experts in the US and China. The individual will conduct research, data analysis, and other tasks to prepare high quality outputs such as reports, memos, and presentations that support the advancement of India’s transition to a climate friendly, sustainable, and affordable cooling solutions. The consultant should have an extensive technical and analytical experience in cooling, appliance efficiency and building energy efficiency. The position involves working closely with civil society partners, government officials, and other stakeholders and will be on a full-time consulting basis.
In addition the position may involve providing research and analysis support on other work areas, if and when required.
Job Responsibilities
- Policy and technical research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, writing on climate friendly cooling, efficient appliances, low GWP refrigerants and demand side management strategies
- Reviewing existing energy efficiency policies, collecting data, conducting energy analysis on the status of market for cooling products
- Conduct technology needs assessment, policy and data analysis, such as comparing policies with international best practices, determining the trends in energy efficiency performance standards, transition to low GWP refrigerants and impact on energy efficiency etc
- Draft market assessment reports, policy memos, presentations and co-author blogs
- Project planning, implementation, and dissemination with partners
- Manage successful execution of workshops to share and discuss the research findings
- Media, industry, and government outreach
- Regular domestic and international communication by video calls, emails, and meetings
- Potential domestic and international travel for meetings and conferences while adhering to the prevailing local and international public health guidelines.
- Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Post-graduate degree in environmental economics, policy, energy management, environmental law or science programs
- Minimum 5 years of experience in energy, energy efficiency, cooling or clean energy, sector in India
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Capability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure and be detail oriented;
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- A strong interest in climate and clean energy and a curiosity to learn
- In-depth knowledge of the Indian political system, economic structures, and socio-cultural landscape, and a network of professional contacts in India
- Experience of working with states and city level agencies is preferred
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
- Experience with any data analysis software (such as Python) and social media tools is a plus
