Language and Learning Foundation – LLF (www.languageandlearningfoundation.org) is a New Delhi based non-profit organization with the vision of enhancing equitable student learning, especially language and literacy development, through professional development of teachers and teacher educators, building/sharing knowledge and implementing projects in collaboration with state governments. LLF currently works with 8 state governments across the country.

LLF’s work on Multilingual Education (MLE)

Resonating with the spirit of the NEP 2020, NIPUN Bharat, and NCF-FS 2022, LLF has always been committed to the formal use of children’s home languages in the classroom to ensure equity and optimum learning benefits. LLF has been working as a pioneer organization in the domain of multilingual education in the country.

To address the home-school language gap, LLF has been running its Multilingual Education (MLE) Demonstration Programs in various districts of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan with children of grades 1, 2 and 3. The interventions also include a comprehensive research component, focused on developing critical understanding around key issues related to multilingual education and generating evidence in Indian contexts. Apart from this, LLF has been advocating a Multilingual Education Approach to achieve the goals of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) in other states.

LLF also works in partnership with the NCERT, states and several eminent organizations on various MLE initiatives, like developing and implementing courses, capacity building of teachers and administrators, conducting language surveys and research studies, documentation of processes and practices, making public goods (videos/handbooks/playbooks/guidelines), developing children’s literature, policy, and advocacy etc.

Position Summary

Specialist- Multilingual Education will support the MLE Unit at LLF, Delhi under direct supervision of the Sr. Program Manager-MLE and with support from Advisor – MLE. She/he will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all kinds of academic work under the Central MLE Unit. She/he will also be responsible for the capacity building of internal team members and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Spend about 10-15 days per month in the field to make observations and support the field teams in stronger implementation of the MLE school programs.

  • Develop instructional designs, assessments and teaching-learning materials for children and teachers with adequate rigor.
  • Design as well as conduct training sessions with schoolteachers, HMs, government officers and LLF staff.
  • Build strong and strategic ties with the local community for successful implementation of the MLE school programs.
  • Lead the process documentation for the school programs in the form of strategy documents, concept notes, classroom videos, interviews, case studies, etc.
  • Support the external researchers in coordination, planning, execution, and analysis.
  • Support in any other MLE activity, programme, or intervention as and when needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor, MLE Advisor, and Executive Director.

Key Requirements

The candidate should have:

  • Post-graduate, preferably in Education
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program design and implementation of MLE programs and/or research in MLE. Experience of developing training materials will be preferred.
  • Conceptual knowledge, Lesson, and curriculum planning skills in Literacy.
  • Advance level knowledge of computers and software for module development.
  • Proficiency in Hindi and English
  • Result-oriented and ability to adjust to a fast, changing work environment associated with a young, growing organization.
  • Good Training knowledge and Facilitation Skill.
  • More specialized computer skills including competency in the use of the internet and the use of Microsoft office (word, excel and PowerPoint), Hindi typing skill is essential.
  • Has a good team spirit and positive attitude. Enjoys a varied pace of working and copes well under pressure.
