Job Description
The Corporate Responsibility (CR) Division is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s CR agenda by crafting goals, policies, and initiatives that align with and support the firm’s business strategies, reflect our values and support the communities where we do business. The Division includes Global Philanthropy (GP), Global Government Relations and Public Policy, the JPMorgan Chase Institute, and Sustainable Finance. JPMorgan Chase CR is looking to fill a Vice President role in the Global Philanthropy team, which will be responsible for the Firm’s initiatives in Financial Health and Small Business initiatives and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) compliance in India. Additionally, the role will provide advisory support on Small Business and Financial Health to the Program Officers covering other markets in the Asia Pacific (APAC). The position will be based in Mumbai. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Market coverage:

  • Plan and contribute to the development and execution of country and regional Global Philanthropy strategy in Small Business and Financial Health.
  • Build strong networks with relevant stakeholders internally and externally to ensure that the work is well-positioned, relevant, and visible to the national and regional agendas

i. Respond to social, political, and economic changes that may impact the firm’s programs and/or our broader reputation as a result of our philanthropic activities.

Collaborate Across the Firm

  • Work in partnership with J.P. Morgan country management committees, cross-CR partners (including Government Relations and Global Philanthropy Pillar teams), and other JPM functions (including HR, Communications) to build strong local oversight and business engagement, as well as specific plans to activate the grants portfolio amongst internal and external stakeholders to maximize awareness and visibility
  • Provide regular thematic and geographic updates/briefings internally and proactively identify and manage opportunities for engagement (events, site visits, etc.) to ensure that local and global stakeholders are well informed and engaged

Promote engagement and external visibility:

  • Proactively identify opportunities where J.P. Morgan can amplify the impact on the ground through non-financial contributions, based on the broader resources of the firm.
  • Represent the firm in appropriate settings with public and private sector stakeholders (conferences, meetings, launches, roundtables, etc)

Grant-making portfolio management:

Manage Grant Portfolio:

  • Develop strategies and programs that align local priorities with the focus areas of the JPMC Foundation and wider Corporate Responsibility agenda in the pillars of small business and financial health in APAC.
  • Proactively research and identify opportunities and needs (data, programming) and develop relationships and programs, within the purview of Small Business and Financial Health pillars, with non-profit and NGO partners to address them coherently with the broader strategy.
  • Manage and evolve the work of the firm’s flagship multi-donor collaborative, the Financial Inclusion Lab, in India.
  • Conduct effective due diligence and risk analysis, leveraging the broader firm and Lines of Businesses, to ensure that the firm’s resources and reputations are protected
  • Work closely with the market program officer to develop and present strong proposals through national, regional, and global approvals processes

Technical advice and engagement:

  • Provide advisory support to the market program officers on technical concepts of Small Business and Financial Health.
  • Serve as an internal resource and expert on the topic of small business and financial health, sharing news, best practices, and policy developments with colleagues throughout the firm.
  • Plan convening, evaluation, and communications activities; share and reflect on experiences in the field and related program activity.
  • Stay informed on timely small business policy, research and methods.

CSR Compliance:

  • Be the primary person responsible for CSR compliance of J.P. Morgan India’s philanthropic activities.
  • Stay abreast of CSR regulations and guidelines and work closely with the legal and compliance teams to determine the applicability and impact of these on J.P. Morgan India.

a. Keep senior stakeholders in philanthropy and business updated on developments and seek their guidance as required.

  • Work closely with finance to determine CSR obligations and plan the portfolio and grant payments across different legal entities to ensure compliance.
  • Interface with regulators and auditors on all matters pertaining to CSR compliance.

Skills and experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in economic inclusion programs in APAC with extensive experience in India and a preference for that being in financial health, financial inclusion, microfinance, small businesses, or micro-entries.
  • Experience working in non-profit, corporate, and policy engagement; understanding of grant-making and ability to track record and assess the capacity of not-for-profit organizations.
  • A strong understanding of CSR requirements in India, preferably in the financial sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically about program design and implementation and to develop practical solutions
  • Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and on complex issues, from field workers to senior civil servants and/or corporate/business leaders
  • Experience in engaging with government and regulators.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work both in a team as well as in an independent context
  • Excellent writing, communications, and project management skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise
  • Capable of working under pressure and against tight deadlines
  • Track record on developing and delivering work which has yielded demonstrable social impact
