The International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST), is establishing its regional office in Maharashtra to advance the organization’s efforts of finding, promoting, and scaling up solutions for some of the pressing environmental–development challenges, at the state level.

The organization is looking for pro-active and ambitious mid-career professionals to join the iFOREST Just Transition Team in Maharashtra. This is a mid-level position, and professionals with minimum  4-5 years of relevant work experience as pe the job description and position requirements should apply. The successful applicant must have proven aptitude of research, experience of stakeholder engagement, and ability to achieve programmatic goals.

Position will be based strictly in Mumbai or Pune

About Just Transition Programme of iFOREST and Maharashtra
Just Transition programme is a flagship initiative of iFOREST that is strongly focused on cutting-edge research and multi-stakeholder engagement to achieve a green transition and green growth that is socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable.

The core of the programme lies in our state-level research and engagement, which forms the basis of our national-level work. Our work at the state and national levels spans across issues of policy development, planning, institutional aspects and financing of just transition.  Maharashtra remains a key state for our sub-national work, where iFOREST has built a strong presence over the past one and half years.

The just transition programme also involves international engagement, with a strong focus on strengthening just transition discourse and influencing action from the perspective of global South.

Qualification & Work Experience

Basic qualification

  • Bachelors in Engineering (Mechanical, Energy, Industry, or related) + Masters in Public Policy (focus- Climate Chang and Sustainability; Environmental Policy)
  • Masters in planning (Urban or Regional planning)
  • Bachelor’s in Planning+ Masters in Climate Change and Sustainability/ Masters in Public Policy (focus- Climate Chang and Sustainability; Environmental Policy)

Additional Qualification: 

Masters in Economics (preferably Development Economics), Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Climate Change.

Other qualifications can be considered if the candidate justifies her/his qualification in the application.

A minimum of 4-5 years of work experience in think tanks, reputed consulting firms, or similar organizations, is required,

Competencies & Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have the following competencies:

  • Strong research aptitude with a proven track record.
  • Proven track record of stakeholder engagement, particularly with Government.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to undertake analytical research and technical analysis.
  • Proven record and ability of public speaking and presenting during a meeting
  • Knowledge of just energy transition, industrial transition, fossil fuel industries, developmental planning a plus.

The responsibilities as the Programme Lead entail the following:

  • Undertake analytical research ad technical analysis.
  • Engage in primary research along with team and ground surveyors to generate data.
  • Coordinate with government officials and agencies, industry, etc. for procurement of data and information related to research.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, analytical research papers, technical briefs, etc.
  • Organize and do stakeholder meetings to strgethn
  • Organize/convene meetings (including roundtables and public meetings) to disseminate research findings and build policy an public engagement.
  • Contribute to institutional profile building and growth.
  • Any other related assignments as may be entrusted by the reporting authority.

Remuneration
