Requirements
The Phule Ambedkar Fellowship (PAF) is a cross-functional and rotational role with field experience at its core where an individual gets to undertake strategic projects resulting in possible long-term leadership roles on Indus Action’s mission.

Through the project, the Fellow not only gets an understanding of the organization and the work that happens across functions but develops generalist skills across Partnerships, Technology and Organizational Development. The focus of the fellowship will be on the Policy Implementation of PoWER (Portfolio of Welfare Entitlements and Rights). As a fellow, you will be visiting the field, meeting government officials and working across one/more defense functions at Indus Action.

The Phule Ambedkar Fellowship is a 12-months full-time commitment. Fellows will be attached to an operational team in a zone to lead Samaaj 3.5% operations in the state and a defense function as point persons. Along with leading the Samaaj Chhattisgarh chapter, the PAF in Chhattisgarh will be associated with the state team to support the operations of the projects around Right to Livelihood and the Strategy and Learning vertical of the organization.

Role and Responsibilities (including KRAs)

Samaaj 3.5%

  • Mobilization, recruitment, onboarding and induction of champions for Samaaj 3.5% in the state of Chhattisgarh.
  • Strategize the planning and implementation to support the first-mile delivery of welfare benefits (welfare schemes) to citizens by champions.
  • Capacity building of champions.
  • Coach champions different ways of looking at the problems of disadvantaged citizens, training them in capturing quality data and building their analytical faculties to make sense of both qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Mentor cohort of community champions in the state Samaaj 3.5% chapter, including support in proposal submission for community projects aimed towards first-mile delivery of welfare benefits and train them in understanding the theory of change of their community-based dream projects.
  • Create a culture within the Champions’ cohort to foster citizen-state engagement for public service delivery.
  • Support the Community Leaders in the state by working closely with the program mentor.

Strategy and Learning

  • Build strong documentation capabilities within the team and publish reports, memos etc. are per requirement
  • Conduct primary and secondary research to explore possibilities of other social security schemes in the state for engagement.
  • Support the Zone in building a Knowledge Management System

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Strong documentation skills
  • Research (both primary and secondary) capabilities
  • Good project and operations management skills
  • Strong event management and session facilitation skills
  • Strong proficiency in MS-Office and G-Suite
  • Proficiency in Hindi (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Ability to break down complex concepts and ideas and communicate in simple and easy language.
  • Comfort with technology usage and survey tools

Education and Experience 

We believe that reaching our vision demands that we have the best and brightest group of leaders working to lead our organization. Here are the minimum qualifications we look for:

  • Graduate (Postgraduates can also apply) – preferably Social Science / MSW / Public Policy
  • Must have: Field/ community engagement experience
  • Good to have: Research experience
  • Good to have: Fellowship experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience (Fellowship experience can be counted)

Compensation-

The PAF will be compensated based on the Indus Action‘s compensation benchmarking rubric. The compensation range will depend on the qualifications, experience and fit to the role.

The candidate would need to use his/her own laptop and the organisation will bear the annual maintenance cost of up to Rs. 12,000 per year as per actuals.

Location The role is based out of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Expect to travel to Champions’ base locations within the state every month.
