The ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) is a permanent premier institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai.

The broad objectives of the Institute cover conducting epidemiological studies, development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, and consultancy. The Institute has the distinction of being the WHO Collaborating Centre for Leprosy Research and Epidemiology. The Institute carries out a variety of research activities, which include areas such as interventional studies, health systems research, evaluation of health schemes and disease control programmes, statistical methodology, epidemiological investigations and outbreak science.

The Institute hosts the ICMR School of Public Health that conducts various academic programs. ICMR-NIE is recognized by Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University for PhD in Epidemiology and by University of Madras for PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Microbiology. The Institute is recognized by the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram for the 2-year Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP-INDIA) leading to Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The Institute conducts other certificate-level FETPs including 2-year India Epidemic Intelligence Service (India EIS), 2-year FETP Noncommunicable disease Fellowship, and 1-year Intermediate FETP – Noncommunicable disease. The institute is recognized by Periyar University to conduct a 2-year Master degree (MSc) course in Biostatistics. The Institute also runs several online courses in health research and related fields.

Essential Qualification

  • Minimum second class or equivalent CGPA three-year General Nursing & Midwife course (GNM)
  • For those with B.Sc nursing the additional oneyear will be added as relevant experience

Desirable Qualification and Experience

  • Experience in measuring anthropometry, blood pressure, and capillary blood glucose.
  • Working experience in health facility/ field datacollection
  • Knowledge of computerapplications
  • Can read, write and speak Tamil,English
  • Remuneration Rs.25,400/- (Inclusive of HRA)

Essential Qualification

1st Class Master’s degree in Public Health / Epidemiology/ Public Administration/ Health care Management from a recognized institution/university with 3 years experience.

OR

2nd Class Master’s degree in Public Health / Epidemiology/ Public Administration/ Health care Management from a recognized institution/university with PhD degree in relevant subjects from a recognized university with 3 years experience.

Desirable Qualification and Experience

  • Experience in managing projects in the Health sector in recognized institute
  • Knowledge of Computer Applications/ Data management Ability to write technical reports in English
  • Ability to speak English and Tamil

Remuneration Rs.85,090/- (Inclusive of HRA)

Age Limit 40 years

Nature of Duty

  • To provide support for planning, managing and implementation of various components of the project
  • Prepare SOPs & training materials
  • Supervise technical and administrative personnel in the project in the respective state.
  • Field visits to survey sites for Monitoring & Evaluation.
  • Analyze data using statistical software like SPSS and Epi Info.
  • Prepare progress reports and activity reports.
  • Conduct meetings/workshops/training programs
  • Willingness to travel anywhere in Tamil Nadu
  • Any other work assigned by the Director/PI/CoPI/Supervisory officer

Desirable Qualification and Experience

  • Experience in managing field-based health research surveys.
  • Experience in writing research manuscripts.
  • Proficiency in Tamil.
  • Knowledge of Computer Applications and Data Management.
  • Remuneration Rs. 70,000/- Per month

Age Limit 70 years

Nature of Duty

  • Provide training to the project staff.
  • Plan and supervise screening, recruitment and follow-up of the study participants.
  • Troubleshoot issues in data collection in the field.
  • Coordinate with the field and lab teams during the implementation of the project.
  • Monitor the quality of data collection
  • Prepare periodic study reports.
  • Develop manuscripts from the study data.
  • Any other work assigned by Supervisory Officer/PI

Instructions to the candidates for Walk in Interview

1. Please bring the filled in application with one set of photocopy of qualification and experience and other testimonials on the date of walk-in interview.

2. Applications received from post/Courier should be not considered for the interview.

3. Candidate should submit all certificates / testimonials in original for verification.

Candidates who fail to bring the Original Certificates for written test / Interview will not be considered.

4. Age relaxation is admissible in respect of OBC candidates, Retrenched Government Employees, Departmental Candidates (including projects) in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central Government from time to time.

5. Experience certificate should clearly indicate the nature of duty during the period of employment. Appointment order, pay slip and offer of appointment will not be accepted in place of experience certificate.

Experience certificate should contain salary per month and duration.

6. No-Objection Certificate from the current employer (for Govt./AB/PSU Servantsonly).

7. The above said post is Contractual for the duration offered. The appointmentmay be renewed after every specific period of time subject to satisfactory performance and project requirement.

8. The incumbents selected will have no claim for regular appointments under NIE/ICMR or continuation of his/her services in any other project.

9. TA/DA will not be paid by NIE for attending the written test/interview.

10.The Director, ICMR-NIE reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of posts or cancel the recruitment or re-advertise the posts, without assigning any reasons thereof, no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
