Position Summary
I am looking to hire a Research Associate to help develop a refined gender strategy for The Global Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). The Research Associate will conduct background research and literature reviews, support the development of knowledge products, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data sets which can be presented clearly on slides for diverse audiences. The Research Associate will also project manage progress against the deliverables required by GEAPP over the course of the year. Qualified candidates will have experience and/or or demonstrated interest to work with development organizations to apply an intersectional lens to gender integration across diverse sectors and will excel in activities that require a strong attention to detail.

The position is a 30 hour/week contract position, and will be project managing the work, researching and developing materials to support the work, as well as participating in calls in US, European and African time zones. There is a possibility of travel depending on the needs of the project. Candidates would ideally have some knowledge of women’s economic empowerment and gender equality issues in Africa and South Asia, as well as some understanding of gender mainstreaming best practice.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Support the delivery of high-quality technical assistance to advance GEAPP’s work in gender- intentional and/or gender transformative investment and program design and implementation. This could include:

  • Conducting background research and literature reviews on the links between gender equality and specific sector outcomes
  • Compiling and analyzing data to identify key themes on gender equality, understand gender gaps or barriers, or other insights while ensuring data integrity and quality
  • Prepare and/or refine presentations and other documents to support team members in strategic communication and delivery of important project information with compelling, clear, and high- quality products.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships and consistent communication with key partner staff.
  • Develop and manage workplans, project scopes as well as supporting tracking and reporting requirements to document activities and lessons learned.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to foster a culture of inclusion and respectful collaboration and feedback across internal and external partnerships, navigating and embracing differences in culture, values, backgrounds, genders and religions.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent practical training with 2+ years of experience in gender mainstreaming and/or integration to apply an intersectional gender lens in the design, implementation, and analysis of international development programs and organizations and/or philanthropic organizations
  • Experience or knowledge in gender equality and women’s empowerment programming, with experience in green energy transition and agricultural development a plus
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn, adapt and apply principles of gender integration approaches to new sector focus areas.
  • Experience in conducting literature reviews and evidence briefs, with an ability to scan documents to efficiently synthesize key points, identify summary themes, and recognize relevant information gaps.
  • Ability to develop and maintain clear project workplans and timelines utilizing Excel and Smartsheet.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and/or analyze qualitative and quantitative data sets.
  • Experience working in the Global South a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, while balancing an ability to be flexible and work within often evolving project needs to meet partners where they are at.
  • Comfort working remotely with team members distributed across various locations and time zones.
  • Analytical skills to organize and understand a wide range of types of information and data.
  • Problem-solving skills to develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines, including management of work plans, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of tools, particularly Outlook, Excel, MS Project Word and PowerPoint

Salary Range: $65-70K for 30 hours/week (average)

Location: Preferably somewhere in US/Latin America, Europe or Africa due to time zones.
