Fortify Health has a vision for a healthier world where everyone has the micronutrients they need to survive and thrive. We work toward this by enabling access to micronutrient-rich wheat flour to reduce and prevent iron deficiency anaemia. We currently have operations in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Delhi NCR and Karnataka.

Fortify Health is looking to hire two Senior Program Officers (SPOs) across multiple locations. Ideally, one SPO candidate will be based out of Mumbai, and the other will be based out of another Tier 1 city in India (to be determined based on upcoming project needs)

Fortify Health operates through three work streams:

  • Open Market Support: We support millers to cost-neutrally fortify chakki atta in the open market
  • Partnership Support: We work with governments, quasi-government and non-government  organisations in India to mainstream wheat flour fortification through social safety net programs
  • Evidence Generation: We conduct monitoring and evaluation of activities to inform the public about the value of food fortification

1. Senior Program Officer

Terms of employment: Contract for one year, renewal by mutual agreement

Country: India

Base Location: Multiple cities (2 positions in any of the locations: Delhi, Mumbai, Vijayawada, Chandigarh, TBD based on project needs).

Education: Bachelors/ Masters

Language Requirement: Hindi, English

Salary and benefits: INR 82,585 per month

Position overview

Fortify Health is looking to hire a Senior Program Officer to join our Partnerships team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in engaging with Fortify Health’s partners and supporting the implementation of  wheat flour fortification  alongside state governments and/or non-for-profits.

This is a great opportunity for high-performing individuals passionate about improving public health at scale to work on impactful projects. The Senior Program Officer will gain rich experience by working closely with various stakeholders including the state governments, millers, and other non-profits, and assist them in their fortification efforts. At Fortify Health, Senior Program Officers serve as technical experts and are responsible for supporting our partners in ensuring that fortified wheat flour meets the highest quality standards.

The Senior Program Officer will have a background in food technology and preferably some experience in program management with the government. They will be based out of Fortify Health’s upcoming hub for one of our partnership projects (either Mumbai, Delhi, Vijayawada, although other Tier 1 cities such as Chandigarh will be considered.). The Senior Program Officer will report to Fortify Health’s Partnerships Manager.

Job responsibilities:

The Senior Program Officer will oversee the following responsibilities:

  • Support the Partnerships team in developing relationships with Fortify Health’s partners
  • Build and sustain relationships with partners, including helping the team develop proposals, concept notes and other technical support documents
  • Collaborate with various teams within Fortify Health to ensure the smooth logistics and supply chain management of fortified wheat flour
  • Travel to partner sites and other areas as per project needs
  • Provide technical support to mills to ensure high-quality fortification:
  • Work with millers to set-up wheat flour fortification in mills, and troubleshoot any problems related to fortification
  • Conduct monthly visits to mills to monitor the quality of fortified wheat flour by supporting quality checks and quality control activities
  • Proactively address any issues or concerns observed during field operations by identifying and implementing effective solutions

Communicate and document work effectively:

  • Maintain clear and efficient internal communication channels to keep all team members informed and aligned with partnership activities
  • Keep comprehensive records of meetings and communications between partners and Fortify Health

Requirements

  • Experience / background in the milling industry, with a good technical understanding of mill setup and machinery
  • Bachelors or higher degree in related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills especially related to partnership management
  • Initiative-taking who will thrive by taking ownership and initiative
  • Committed to achieving results and proven perseverance to reach goals
  • Willingness to relocate based on project needs. The relocating city TBD but it could be one of Delhi, Mumbai, Vijayawada, Chandigarh, TBD based on project needs.
  • Willingness to travel between 50% – 70% of the time

2. Partnerships Manager 

Terms of employment: Contract for two years, renewal by mutual agreement

Language Requirement: Hindi and English

Salary and benefits: INR 1,06,180 per month

Position overview

Fortify Health is looking to hire a Partnerships Manager to join our Partnerships team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role building and strengthening partnerships with the state government departments and not-for-profits by identifying collaboration opportunities and supporting the implementation of wheat flour fortification programs.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who would like to work closely with senior leaders at state government level and other non-for-profits, work and mentor a young, growing team, and enjoy an entrepreneurial environment.

The Partnerships Manager will have a background in public health/economics/social work and/or experience in project management, especially with government. The Partnerships Manager will report to Fortify Health’s Associate Director of Partnerships.

Job responsibilities:

The Partnerships Manager will be responsible for:

Liasoning with FH partners: Work closely with Fortify Health’s partners (new and existing) to identify ways to collaborate. This includes engaging with partners to provide technical counsel on fortification and design support strategy with senior leaders in governments, foundations, NGOs and other social sector organisations
Driving project Implementation: Work closely with all the key stakeholders (partners, field monitors, millers, internal team at Fortify Health) to oversee the implementation of wheat flour fortification with our partners
Building high quality materials for projects:  Develop high-quality communication materials such as the concept note and presentation materials for the partners, technical review of fortification-related documents, and build comprehensive implementation plan for projects

Maintaining strong internal communication and mentoring junior staff: Maintain internal communication channels to keep all team members informed and aligned with partnership activities, and record minutes of the meetings and communication with partners. The Partnerships Manager is expected to work closely with the Programs Officer and other junior staff to support them in implementation of the program as well as providing guidance and constructive feedback

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters in Public Health/nutrition/economics/Social Work or related field
  • Minimum four years of experience of working with government or other stakeholders in health, nutrition, education or a related field
  • Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication (written and verbal) skills with senior officials
  • Self-starter who will thrive in a start-up setting by taking ownership and initiative
  • Committed to achieving results and proven perseverance to reach goals
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and with remote team
  • Based out of Delhi but open for remote for exceptional candidates
  • Willingness to travel between 30% – 50% of time
  • Fluency in English and Hindi, proficiency in other local languages are desirable
