IC India is seeking a full-time “Data Analyst” who will be responsible for analyzing large datasets and extracting insights from complex data sets and provide data-driven recommendations for improving development initiatives and programs. The analyst work will play a crucial role in shaping evidence-based decision-making, optimizing resource allocation, and driving positive impact for state’s policies.
Location: New Delhi, India with travel to Bhubaneswar and other field sites.Start Date: November 15, 2024

About the Unit

India faces the dual challenge of rapidly improving living standards—through sustained economic growth and expanded access to reliable and affordable energy—while simultaneously reducing pollution for a cleaner and healthier environment. EPIC-India researchers work hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to identify innovative ideas, pilot them on the ground, and rigorously measure outcomes.

 Position Description 

EPIC India is seeking a full-time “Data Analyst” who will be responsible for analyzing large datasets and extracting insights from complex data sets and provide data-driven recommendations for improving development initiatives and programs. The analyst work will play a crucial role in shaping evidence-based decision-making, optimizing resource allocation, and driving positive impact for state’s policies.

Responsibilities 

  • Data Directory and Collection: Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including faculty, researchers, and research managers, as well as government departments in identifying existing datasets, cataloguing them, and help in building a repository/ hub for modern data analysis.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Conduct data cleaning, validation, to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity. Apply quality control measures to improve data quality and resolve any discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyse large and complex datasets, extract meaningful statistics, and identify relevant trends and patterns.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Present data and analysis through clear and appealing data visualizations, reports, and dashboards to facilitate understanding and decision-making by stakeholders.
  • Ethical Data Handling: Ensure compliance with data user agreements and guidelines, safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive data throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Any other task as assigned by the line manager.

Required Qualifications 

Education

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering and Economics or a related field. A focus on development studies or economics is a plus

Experience 

2-3 years of proven experience as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist, preferably within the development sector or related fields.

Competencies 

  • Ability to compile, clean, organize and harmonize large datasets and convert them into user-friendly formats.
  • Proficiency in data mining, web scraping, statistical analysis, and machine learning skills
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Stata, Python or R, GIS tools for data analysis and visualization.
  • Excellent data analysis and visualization skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.
  • Passion for the development sector and a commitment to making a positive impact.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral)
  • Experience of working with large datasets including administrative data and geospatial data
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and big data technologies (e.g., AWS) is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Hindi
