Project Background
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an enterprise owned by the German Government. GIZ implements sustainable development through international cooperation, on behalf of Germany and other partners. With a global footprint in over 130 countries, GIZ leverages its regional and technical expertise for local innovation. GIZ India has a team of over 550 staff.

The “Innovative, New Solar Areas (InSolar)” project aims to reduce concurrencies between land usage and power generation. To defuse increasing competition for space, important synergies are being created with the aim to open areas with little competition for power generation through innovative PV solutions such as AgriPV, Building integrated PV (BIPV), Canal Top PV, noise barriers on motorways (vertical PV).

The government of India has set the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2070. For this to succeed, India needs an estimated solar output of 1,689 gigawatts (GW) by 2050 and 5,630 GW by 2070. GIZ is providing significant support in achieving these goals as part of the German Indian solar partnership.

Responsibilities

  • Management of Project related activities, especially consultants with responsibility for activity outputs guided by the rules and regulations of GIZ.
  • Support the Indian beneficiaries and Indian partner organizations by providing guidance, advisory services, and technical expertise, dealing with a wide range of cooperation partners.
  • Explore and facilitate partnerships and cooperation between the private and public stakeholders in the region and foster coordination and consultative dialogue among these to establish a quality strong partnership for project implementation.
  • Manage, monitor, and report the achievements of the project.
  • Initiate, participate and facilitate networking with other international TA agencies active in the sector.

Core Scope of Tasks

  • Take overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, and implementation of agreed project activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant project partners, institutional partners at the national and state levels, and external consultants engaged by GIZ, ensuring effective collaboration and timely delivery of project outputs.
  • Contribute to the conceptual and strategic development of project outputs, activities, and operational planning in close collaboration with the project team.
  • Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance of technical deliverables from consulting teams/partners, ensuring adherence to project requirements and standards. Follow up with regular feedback and support as needed.
  • Participate in workshops and stakeholder dialogues organized by the project, partners, or consultants, providing technical inputs and expertise.
  • Maintain effective communication channels and facilitate the exchange of information between partners, stakeholders, and GIZ, ensuring a smooth flow of information and coordination.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in the field of innovative solar applications and contribute to knowledge sharing within the project team and with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, to assess project progress and impact.

Other duties/additional tasks, if any

  • Support the project and GIZ in any other activities which are deemed to be suitable.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as renewable energy, engineering, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience (minimum of 5 years) in project coordination and technical management, preferably in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar energy.
  • Strong technical knowledge of solar energy systems and innovative solar applications.
  • Familiarity with the Indian renewable energy landscape, policies, and regulations, particularly in the solar sector.
  • Experience in conducting technical reviews, quality assurance, and monitoring of project deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, project partners, and consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to conceptual and strategic development, operational planning, and knowledge sharing within a project team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of local languages would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and engage with stakeholders at the national and state levels.
