DEHAT India (Developmental Association for Human Advancement) is a non- governmental organization (NGO) working in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and has its headquarters in Bahraich, India. For 22 years we have been working with a vision to build a child-centred society, where all children enjoy the fullest scope of their rights. We are tackling challenges related to human rights and protection such as human trafficking, early child marriage, child labour, etc. We are also committed to creating livelihood methods through sustainable agriculture practices to build a safe and secure environment for children. DEHAT India also initiates conversations around adolescent health and sexual reproductive health within the communities and with
system actors.

Your key responsibilities.

You will be responsible for managing the child protection programmes within DEHAT India in line with international and national child protection standards, in coordination with the Lead, Human Protection.

  • Work closely with child protection staff, including project coordinator, counsellor, case workers and volunteers, to identify child protection issues, facilitate the implementation, and report.
  • Assist in designing and developing child protection programmes and activities within DEHAT India’s programme strategy.
  • Liaising with focal points of government offices and partners, and ensuring regular follow-up on project activities to maintain quality and identify opportunities & constraints.
  • Implementation of DEHAT India’s child safety and safeguarding programmes, both internally and externally with partners.
  • Capacity building for partners and peers, and ensuring effective delivery of child protection activities.

Some broader roles and responsibilities.

While no two days are the same, you might be doing this too:

  • Facilitating the effective implementation of the child protection schemes of Central and State governments.
  • Acting as the DEHAT India’s representative to local, regional, and state-level human protection bodies for collaboration and coordination.
  • Networking and coordination with Indo-Nepal system actors, civil society organizations, and other services providers such as Police, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Childline, and Para-military Forces at Indo-Nepal Border (SSB, BSF etc.)
  • Intervention in cases identified by DEHAT India’s vigilance team at different levels (booth, community, transit points) and support in rescue, repatriation, rehabilitation, and prevention.
  • Preparation of monthly, annual, and activity reports, and maintaining all records including data, case studies, and case files, along with timely follow-up with the survivors.
  • Organize country-wide conference regarding service provision to survivors of child rights matters
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the Strategic Leadership Team and CoreTeam on a need basis.

We are looking for you if you are:

  • Graduate in the area of Social Sciences/Development Studies/Law/Policy or any other related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience of working in the development sector with a minimum of one year experience in the field of child protection or adolescent-focused work.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices within Child Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  • Comfortable with inter-district and intra-district travel.
  • Experience in building capacity and understanding of child-focused implementation processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to give and receive feedback. Also, competent in written and spoken English and Hindi.

We will prefer you if you are:

  • Master’s degree holder in the area of Social Sciences/Development Studies/Law/Policy or any other related field.
  • Experience in curriculum design, Also, ability to provide creative/interactive training.
  • Knowledge of the Nepali language will be a value addition.
  • Comfortable working in the grassroots of India’s tier-three districts.
  • Open to new ideas, ready to unlearn, and work on strengths and weaknesses.
  • Affinity with children and young people.
