1. Consultant – Contractual (2-4 Years)

Role Overview
CSTEP’s Research Office seeks to recruit suitable candidates for a funded project on rural economic transformation in India. The Consultant will conduct in-depth quantitative and qualitative research in rural economics/agriculture markets. The role requires a good knowledge of the rural and agrarian markets. The incumbent should be willing to work under guidance and deliver in reasonable time.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake in-depth literature review and be able to compile relevant information into actionable items.
  • Carry out in-depth research with a focus on rural economy.
  • Source and analyse relevant information and data via research and networking.
  • Identify micro- and macro-economic indicators, measuring parameters, economic models, etc., as needed for the project.
  • Assist with efforts around engagement with external organisations and partners.
  • Make field visits for gathering information and data, as and when needed.
  • Assist in project reports, articles, power-point presentations, as and when needed.
  • Undertake number crunching, data sourcing and structuring, and empirical analysis, and be able to make assessments, as required for the project.
  • Diligently execute activities as deemed necessary, e.g.  organising meetings, preparing minutes, liaising, etc.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduation in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Sustainability from an IIM/IIT(B-Schools) or other Tier 1 B-Schools.
  • Candidates with interdisciplinary qualifications or specialised certification in the subject (such as in rural economy and sustainable development,  rural development and technology, science and environmental economics) are also encouraged to apply.

Experience

At least 2-4 years of research experience working with think-tanks, government, or academia in the area of agricultural transformation, rural development,  and/ or rural-urban linkages.

  • Relevant knowledge of rural economy or rural economic transformation will be an added advantage.

Skill Set

  • Proficient with at least two or more empirical tools like STATA, SPSS, R, linear interpolation, etc.
  • Good analytical skills (ability to analyse data, draw conclusions and make practical recommendations).
  • Strong passion and acumen towards research and policy enrichment in the field.
  • Ability to work in a team and deliver quality output with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, narration, and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain flexibility, and willingness to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a positive attitude.
  • Well-versed with MS-Office tools and have good presentation skills.
  • Strict work ethics and a sense of responsibility towards the work assigned.
  • Must be enthusiastic with a willingness to learn and contribute towards the growth of CSTEP.
