The Economics Department of Ashoka University has set up the Centre for Economic Data and Analysis (CEDA) with the primary aim of facilitating informed debate about economic and social developments in India.

CEDA also aims to directly contribute to public discussions on policy relevant issues by generating written content in the form of blog posts, summaries of research papers, commentaries on economic and social issues etc.

Research Associate – Women and Jobs in India

Role: Research Associate at Centre for Economic Data and Analysis, Ashoka University

Type of position: Full-time Location: Delhi and Sonepat (remote work possible)

Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s Start Date: 1 June, 2022

Length of Commitment: 1 year, with possibility of extension

Salary Range: INR 40,000 – INR 50,000 monthly depending on experience and skills

About the position The Economics Department of Ashoka University has set up the Centre for Economic Data and Analysis (CEDA), with the primary aim of facilitating informed debate about economic and social developments. CEDA conducts original research and data analysis, builds and maintains a data portal, and discusses key issues through blog posts and commentaries.

Over the next 3 years, CEDA will be specifically working on a portfolio of research focused on gender and employment in India.

We are seeking to hire a research associate for one project in this portfolio, which aims to analyze multiple, big and real-time data on Indian labor markets. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in developing skills in cleaning and analyzing big data, undertaking empirical research work, and applying for a Ph.D. in the future.

The RA will work with Dr Kanika Mahajan.

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

● Data cleaning

● Analyzing secondary datasets and undertaking econometric analyses

● Conducting literature search

● Contributing actively to the project and providing regular updates

Desired qualifications

● M.A. (Economics, Statistics, Public Policy) or B.Tech/B.A. (Economics, Statistics) with research experience (and relevant skills)

● Software Skills: STATA, Python, R, Latex

● Knowledge of scraping data will be an advantage

● Excellent analytical and communication skills

● Self-motivation to learn and pick up new skills if required, and being conscientious
