CARE International is one of the world’s largest aid agencies, fighting poverty and injustice in over 80 countries around the world, and helping 65 million people each year to find routes out of poverty. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives in the aftermath. We work with private sector companies to co-create opportunities for poor and marginalised people to have better access to goods, services and livelihoods – and on fairer terms. With more than 60 years’ practical and hands-on experience, our programmes tackle the deep-seated root causes of poverty, not just the consequences.
1. Programme Development Specialist
Location: 17 Oval Way London London Greater London SE11 5RR United Kingdom
Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities
As per our 2030 Vision, CARE and our partners aim to support 200 million people from the most vulnerable and excluded communities to overcome poverty and social injustice. This role sits within CARE International UK’s Programme Funding Team, which is critical to the achievement of CARE’s vision as we lead high-quality bidding processes with UK-based institutional donors and large foundations.
As a Programme Development Specialist, you will work in partnership with CARE country offices, national and international partners, finance colleagues, and technical advisory teams to identify, scope, bid for and secure new funding for programmes through both grant and commercial contract modalities. You will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to high-quality bidding processes, submitting applications which showcase CARE’s programme innovation to funders such as FCDO, EC, DEC, Education Cannot Wait, and Jersey Overseas Aid Committee. You will build learning from existing CARE programmes into bid design for impactful programmes in line with CARE policies and standards, as well as donor requirements. Candidates able to work in French are particularly encouraged to apply.
You will work internationally and be exposed to a range of technical approaches in varied thematic areas and geographies across CARE’s work. CARE employees are encouraged to pursue learning and development opportunities within the organisation, and to pro-actively contribute to the teams ways of working and positive culture of CIUK.
Why join our team?
By shaping and building our programme portfolio, the Programme Funding Team is central to delivery of CARE International UK’s new three-year strategy.
‘Local Leadership, Global Influence’, underpins our new strategy. Women leaders and activists already play key roles addressing humanitarian and climate crises, something which is frequently overlooked. CIUK will scale our proven models which support women’s voice and leadership to place women at the center of climate and humanitarian action and decision-making.
The team will also contribute to CARE’s aims to shift more power and resources to a country and local level, exploring new ways to provide programme funding support to country offices and partners.
The team is looking for passionate individuals ready to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams during the preparation of bids for medium-large (£1-10m) grants and commercial contracts where CIUK is a sub. You will have excellent communication skills, strong programme design management skills and a proven ability to forge strong relationships with partners and colleagues in multiple locations. You will bring experience in institutional funding and a very good knowledge of our key donors’ requirements (FCDO, DEC, EC). An ability to work in French and overseas experience is also highly desirable.
