CARE is a not-for-profit organization working in India for over 70 years, focusing on alleviating poverty and social injustice. We do this through well-planned and comprehensive projects in health, education, livelihoods and disaster preparedness and response. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalized communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.

During FY 2019-20, CARE India directly reached out to 50.2 million people through 53 projects across 19 states, covering more than 90+ districts. We are part of the CARE International Confederation, working in 100 countries for a world where people live with dignity and security.

PROJECT DETAILS

Design Center is an establishment by CARE India in collaboration with Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad). The Design Center’s goal is to leverage digitization for deepening CARE India’s programmatic impact by developing replicable and scalable digital solutions that can be implemented by CARE globally.

Design Center will closely work with IIIT-Hyderabad over a three-year period to integrate problem areas identified by CARE India, incubate them in the center to get solved and productized into advanced technology-based solutions that will be implemented and scaled across domestic and international geographies.

JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual with relevant experience in Corporate/Development sector in conceptualizing and operationalizing design thinking approaches for developing innovative product/program solutions. The experience of managing such innovations end to end from design to market will be of added value. S/he will be responsible for providing strategic, operational and technical support to bring efficient and effective systems to build design centre as a hub for incubating innovations in health, education and livelihood for impacting the most marginalized women and girls in over ninety countries where CARE operates currently.

The candidate will be facilitating the process of design thinking principles in solving challenges which could help impact marginalized women and girls at scale. This would include scoping problems, driving design thinking hackathons, incubating and supporting promising design innovations and scaling them through government collaboration and social enterprise pathway.

CARE India’s Design center is a place where you can solve complex and diverse problems from the ground alongside thoughtful, large, and experienced stakeholders such as IIIT-Hyderabad, and various vertical teams of CARE India.

In this role, you will get exposure to and/or be involved in all parts of the design thinking process: Bringing the problem areas into the center, Incubating and productizing them, prototyping and delivering it for implementation and scale.

Working in close partnership with CARE USA, the Design Centre will expand its partnerships with global technology companies in scaling the solutions to other relevant geographies.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with Head Strategy in setting up the CARE India’s Design center in collaboration with IIIT-Hyderabad at Raj Reddy Centre for Social Good
• Identify top projects to be undertaken under Design Centre in close collaboration with CARE’s program team
• Co-ordinate and partner with Startups, to identify products, make it fit for larger impact which are affordable and has a potential to scale
• Responsible for anchoring and accelerating the agenda of the Design Centre
• Develop strategic operational plan with the Center stakeholders and move digital innovations to execution
• Establish collaborative models for incubating and scaling program innovations
  Sift and analyse data from multiple angles, looking for trends that highlight problems or opportunities

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

•  Post-Graduate with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• Strong acumen in following areas, along with depth at least two: innovation, incubation, startups, product development, stakeholder management
• Demonstrate skills in scoping problems, driving design thinking hackathons, incubating and supporting promising design innovations and scaling them
• Proven expertise in building successful startup teams and learning from failure, as an entrepreneur, investor and/or advisor.
