WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You’ll join the Product, Practice and Knowledge (PPK) group that supports our ESG and Social Impact Practices, both of which are critical pillars of Further, Bain’s holistic approach to ESG (Environment, Social, Governance).

Over the past two decades, we have formalized our industry and capability areas, internally known as “Practices”, integral to how we win and deliver results to our clients. PPK is a business unit of Bain and the team’s primary role is to drive growth in a particular industry or capability and boost our expertise and commercial excellence. Practices offer team members interesting content, high visibility to senior leadership, and an exciting career path within Bain.

You will join the ESG knowledge management team, which covers a range of ESG topics, including environmental, social and economic justice issues. This rapidly growing practice area is focused on helping our clients make critical decisions that impact the core of their business strategy, related to sustainability strategy, the environmental and social impact of operations, stakeholder engagement, and more. We work to ensure that ESG efforts are anchored in business fundamentals and demonstrate a clear return on investment – and that those efforts are then firmly embedded within our clients’ strategy and operations.

The Knowledge Manager manages the core Knowledge Management activities for the global Practice. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing a significant portion of the knowledge management function (i.e. solution, sector, and/or region), including ongoing management and professional development for the Knowledge team within that purview. You have a deep understanding of the ESG products and toolkit in order to provide exceptional service to practice leaders and case teams and improve delivery models

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Knowledge management process, strategy, and innovation: Leads the strategy and execution of a best-in-class knowledge capture and delivery process, including the use of prioritization of codification opportunities and incorporation of frontline feedback to inform codification and information sharing. Coaches and trains KM team to execute best-demonstrated KM processes, including sanitizing, tagging, content processing, and developing insights. Uses analytics to monitor and improve KM processes. Regularly takes leadership role for cross-practice KM initiatives, ensuring global consistency.
  • Content ownership and leadership: Runs seamless and prioritized knowledge capture process; manages juniors to execute. Proactively leads synthesis and codification of existing and new content, including mapping and prioritizing gaps as needed. Guides case teams on how to shape content; effectively modifies, shapes and improves content received from teams to create high impact materials. Applies thought leadership and expertise to develop succinct, insightful, and cohesive materials.
  • Commercial support and request process management: Sought after expert regarding full spectrum of knowledge base and practice content by providing creative and insightful responses to broad, deep, or complex questions; advises on key internal information, experts, and relevant case work. Applies expertise and provides value-added support to deliver tailored and high impact responses and enhanced output. Adapts team request process to support needs of the business. Appropriately apprentices junior team members on request support. Builds a roster of practice affiliate promoters.
  • Knowledge and application of practice expertise across the role: Recognized for grasp of full spectrum of knowledge base (cases, content, Bain experts, themes) within their purview, including across ESG topics. Authors content based on practice priorities or knowledge gaps; builds the knowledge base and coaches junior team members on practice knowledge.
  • Team management and deployment: Effectively manages and motivates multiple employees; improves their performance through apprenticeship, coaching, and training. Ensures consistent, high quality standards delivered by team; maintains appropriate attention to detail facilitating linkages across team members. Invests in team members’ development and motivates team through inspiring leadership by example. Actively contributes to the practice and broader PPK team. Role models leadership behavior and drives positive change in sphere of influence; outstanding team player.

ABOUT YOU

  • Undergraduate with 8+ years of experience or post graduate with 10+ years of experience with strong academic credentials
  • Minimum 6+ years (8 years if external) of experience in a professional services firm environment with exposure to knowledge management or research including 5+ years of experience managing team of employees and prior experience in ESG topics

Good business sense combined with structured problem solving and analytical abilities e.g. providing intellectual thought leadership, testing assertions, gaining consensus, and driving implementation

  • Proven track record of coaching and developing junior team members and other internal stakeholders
  • Pragmatic and results-focused while still being organized and attentive to detail
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure, prioritize tasks and quickly move to decision-making
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.  Ability to lead persuasive discussions with senior business executives within Bain
  • Excellent written and verbal ability: high level of English language skills required
