Azim Premji University was established under the Azim Premji University Act 2010 of the Government of Karnataka. Azim Premji Foundation, the sponsoring body set up the University as a fully philanthropic and not-for-profit entity, with a clear social purpose. The University started in 2011 and since then have admitted over 2000 students.
The Azim Premji Foundation comprises the Field Institutes, University and Philanthropy. The Field Institutes and University work towards quality and equity of education in India, including in research, policy, and continuing education. The Philanthropy unit provides financial support through multi-year grants to not-for-profit organizations outside of education, that serve the most vulnerable in our society. This integrated approach is towards our larger purpose of ‘contributing to a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society’, bringing our constitutional values to life.
The university believes that development education, research and policy draw their strengths from academic studies as well as reflective on ground practice. In that spirit, our faculty are drawn from both academia as well as the development sector and engage in collaborative teaching, research, public writing and policy work.
We are particularly interested in candidates with academic or practice experience in Environment, Ecology and Climate Change in rural or urban settings in the Indian context.
