a. Social Sector Capacity Building (SSCB) focused to drive investments in building ecosystem capabilities of the sector and organizational effectiveness

b. Sustainable Rural Development [SRD] focused at addressing key rural issues and supports initiatives such as desilting of water bodies and natural farming

c. Goodwill supporting various projects but largely focused on urban governance. We have also supported large legacy projects such as SRCC Children’s Hospital, Ashoka University and Give India under this portfolio.

About the role

We are currently looking to hire a Manager who will work across the following 3 sub-verticals under our Social Sector Capacity Building vertical:

1. Centre of Excellence (COE) – Building the capacity of NGOs to sustain their organization and scale their impact

2. Learning & Development Programs (LDP) – Developing a cadre of trained professional leaders across nonprogrammatic domains such as Leadership, Fundraising, Talent & Culture etc. to improve overall effectiveness of NGOs.

3. Ecosystem Development (ED) – Supporting organizations and movements that aim to mobilize financial and nonfinancial resources to the sector

Our aim with these three verticals is to measure the success of investment in capacity building and share our learnings and evidence with the larger sector to influence funding agencies, service providers and other NGOs to prioritize capacity building and become resilient and sustainable.

A successful manager will:

  • Manage relationships with portfolio partners that involves conducting need assessments, identifying areas that require critical support, pitching grant proposals to the board, processing grants to address those gaps, and measuring the success of those grants in the short and long term.
  • Create a robust monitoring and evaluation system which involves co-creating milestones and defining success metrics with partners every year, showcasing the progress to the leadership team, tracking the process through quarterly check-ins, developing dashboards that can analyze data to drive insights and decision-making. It will also involve tracking progress and impact at the cohort level
  • Be able to understand organisation and program budgets shared by partner organisations and analyse it across portfolio to identify trends and draw insights across various programs
  • Identify success stories from these partnerships and work with communications agencies to write and publish case studies, articles, blogs, etc. to showcase the impact of capacity building investments for the organisation’s long-term sustainability. A huge part of the role is documenting these success stories in-house as well as creating learning templates that can benefit other organisations in the sector.
  • Build an effective grant management system to ensure seamless data collection, data analysis, and reporting to various levels within the Foundation. It will involve working with an external vendor to create a platform, organise the data in relevant templates, create dashboards for analysis and train partners to use the same to track progress.
  • Organise convenings to invite critical stakeholders from within the sector to identify challenges and white spaces within the sector that needs to be addressed to build transparency, credibility, and accountability of the sector ensuring the long-term sustainability of NGOs.
  • Build systems & processes that can allow for easy transfer of knowledge to any other organisations interested and invested in capacity building. It will involve creating SOPs of all the workflows that are developed in-house to engage with various stakeholders.
  • Work with the communications manager to disseminate the success stories, learnings, challenges of capacity building in NGOs to targeted stakeholders to build a critical mass of influencers and followers online and offline. It should also include identifying forums (conferences, events, webinars, etc.) where the knowledge of our best practices can be plugged in for larger dissemination.

Knowledge

  • 7+ years of work experience in the social sector, preferably with an intermediary organization that offers training and capacity-building support to NGOs
  • A graduate degree from any field
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel for creating data analysis and dashboard templates
  • Knowledge of documenting SOPs Skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with various stakeholders
  • Proficient in spoken and written communications
  • Great at documenting the learning journeys of portfolio partners
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Monitoring grant success & evaluating program impact; ability to do a methodical quantitative and qualitative analysis of all our partners
