The Day of the Majestic Big Cats

Today, on Global Tiger Day, we celebrate the roaring role tigers play in a healthy ecosystem. Being a top predator and the largest of the cats, they keep the population of herbivores in check. This helps maintain the ecological balance of the forests they inhabit. WWF India began its conservation efforts five decades ago by supporting ‘Project Tiger’ – the first-ever conservation programme by the Government of India.

Tigers for a Healthy Tomorrow

India has been a global success when it comes to protecting the magnificent Royal Bengal tiger. Home to 70% of the world’s tigers, it is our responsibility to save them without stalling years of progress. Tigers have long held a sense of mysticism and intrigue for their power, solidarity lives, and courage. However, danger still lurks in large magnitude for their survival. Tigers are constantly under threat – poaching, illegal wildlife trade, habitat loss and fragmentation, and conflict are some activities that makes it extremely difficult for this big cat to survive. These endangered big cats need our help in their protection.
