Program Duration: 1st August-10th September (15 hours per week for 5 weeks)

Are you passionate about the future of food and our planet? Do you want to contribute to solving the world’s most pressing problems — food insecurity, environmental degradation, deteriorating public health, resource scarcity, and much more? At GFI India, we are looking for 15 future smart protein leaders to build the Indian Smart Protein Innovation ecosystem. We are very excited to launch the Smart Protein Campus Ambassador Program for the first-of-its-kind India Smart Protein Innovation Challenge (ISPIC 2021).

Welcome to the second edition of the India Smart Protein Innovation Challenge for 2021

This year, in the second edition of the India Smart Protein Innovation Challenge 2021 (ISPIC 2021), we invite participants to ideate and innovate in key commercial whitespaces across the value chain of plant-based, cultivated, and fermentation-derived proteins. The focus of the challenge is to educate, inspire, and engage a strong pool of talent on one hand and ensure venture creation for potential and existing entrepreneurs in the smart protein sector on the other.  ISPIC 2021 will be more inclusive and will welcome solutions from a broader base of participants in the alternative protein sector. The challenge will focus on engaging and developing a science and technology talent pipeline for the smart protein sector while building enterprises for domestic and global markets. The three smart protein innovation areas in focus will be plant-based, fermentation-derived, and cultivated proteins.

What is Smart Protein?

The alternative protein sector is at the forefront of global food innovation, with major benefits for people, the planet, and profit. Making foods that taste the same or better and cost the same or less than their animal-derived counterparts, with vastly lower impacts on planetary and public health — now that’s smart protein. Around the world, innovators are creating the meat, eggs, and dairy foods of the future — made directly from plants, animal cells, or microorganisms. At the Good Food Institute India (GFI India), we’re laying the groundwork for this sunrise industry in one of the world’s most important countries, and demonstrating a model for a more secure, sustainable, and just food system in the developing world.

What can you expect to learn?

  • Deep dive into a new sunrise sector,  taking initial steps into the alternative protein sector in India, and be a part of its acceleration by helping transform the status quo!
  • Help accelerate and build the growth of the smart protein sector in India and take your first step to develop your area of specialization for future research, entrepreneurship, or career development.
  • Develop insights into how successful events and projects are managed and executed ‒‒ work closely with experienced GFI India team members and gain mentorship and support. You will have weekly check-ins with your GFI India manager and deliver on metric-driven outreach outcomes as well.
  • Learn how to improve your marketing, community engagement, and leadership skills, as well as how to network and forge mission-aligned, meaningful connections in the Indian smart protein sector.
