Goonj started its fellowship journey in 2018 with its first cohort of 15 fellows from diverse backgrounds.
Our aim is to create more doers, following the words of our founder, Anshu Gupta, “Right now India doesn’t need more thinkers, it needs more doers.” We are looking for people with a passion to make a difference. If one is tired of thinking about solutions and wants to do something, then this Fellowship is the place for you!
The one year time frame of the fellowship is about engaging the youth in a deeper way with some real life challenges, tasks and timelines. The Focus is on giving hands on experience and immersion into urban and rural India’s realities.
What An immersive one year exposure and on ground experience for youth from grassroots who are ready to act on hardcore ground challenges.
Why Most opportunities and resources in the development sector are easily available to youth from cities, be it training programmes, conferences, fellowships, funds, exposure to new ideas or simply guidance. And yet youngsters from the villages, smaller districts and towns of India are the ones who work on the ground in rural and urban areas becoming the foot soldiers of development work.
So Goonj Fellowship – Grassroots aims to reach out to this resilient force of youth and create a ground for their nurturing and fine tuning. Our goal is to value what they bring to the world.. their inherent understanding of the people, their resilience of working in the toughest circumstances, their hunger to make it a better world for their own families and future. This youth is deeply invested in the change they seek to bring about. It thus makes sense to work closely on their personal and professional development. to ensure that the development work in future has a force of people who have the skills, mindset and determination to work long term on issues that are bothering us today.
