As per the 2017-2018 Indian Economic Survey, agriculture employed more than half of India’s labor force and contributed 17-18 percent of the country’s GDP. However despite their significant contributions to the agriculture space, women farmers face several challenges, including limited access to inputs, credit, markets, and technology. This further limits their agency and impacts the economy with decreased productivity and workforce participation.
Grameen Foundation India (GFI) strives for women’s economic empowerment through several initiatives. One such initiative is manifested in agri-based livelihoods where GFI is working with FPOs in eastern Uttar Pradesh through its Walmart Foundation-supported project called Market Access eNabled by Digital Innovation in India (MANDI) by mainstreaming gender in FPOs.
At this webinar, we aim to discuss the strategies that will add to the participation of women in the FPOs. The objective of this webinar is to discuss the importance of integrating gender perspectives in FPO governance, business operations, and strategies for ensuring women’s active participation in agricultural value chains through FPO channels.
