First Principle Labs We are excited about reimagining the future of behavioral science and design, in a post-AI world. At First Principle Labs(FPL), our multi-disciplinary t am attempts to connect the disparate dots by uncovering hidden patterns of human behavior. We study people, their behavior and how they make decisions to design experiences.
In short, we offer solutions at the intersection of design, technology and behavioral sciences.
An opportunity to explore career possibilities involving human decision making, experience design and behavioral sciences. Apply by 11:59pm, 28 November 2022. The fellowship starts from 7 January, 2023.
Inviting you to FPL Fellowship
We are inviting interests from candidates who are eager to explore career possibilities at the intersection of human decision making, experience design and behavioral sciences.
The First Principle Labs(FPL) Fellowship is an opportunity for any behavioral science enthusiast to explore and experience the journey of becoming a behavioral designer over the duration of 10 months.
During the Fellowship, the individual gets an opportunity to deep dive and solve complex, real world problems related to designing experiences by understanding the contextual factors and applying behavioral design principles.
What we offer
Being part of the Fellowship, you will apply social and behavioral science theories; design and interpret experiments to understand user habits and behavior.
You will work closely with our customers to craft and apply behavioral insights that address user needs; and deliver business relevant insights through engaging storytelling in continuous dialogue, presentations and workshops.
Our ideal candidate has
The opportunity
The Fellowship provides an opportunity for the candidates to “learn by doing” what behavioral design really means.
Candidates explore the depth of behavioral design through self-learning as well as peer discussions. Applying the custom-approach created by FPL, the participants identify the barriers, biases and behaviors to create their hypothesis, derive possible ideas, experiment on the ground (re-examine, defend and many a time reject long held opinions). These happen over multiple iterations during phase 1 and phase 2.
You become an FPL Fellow when you complete 3 phases and meet the defined criteria of the Fellowship.
Phase 0 (12 weeks):
We will be deep diving into the behavioral design concepts that involves understanding how people make decisions, and underlying heuristics and biases that we rely on while making these decisions. The intention is to focus on a specific concept and build deeper knowledge by exploring the concept (through books, research articles, videos etc). You would need to plan to spend about 15-20 hours in a week.
Phase 1 (12-15 weeks):
We will work on real world problems to identify the WHY of decision making. To uncover the problems and resolve them, we create various hypothesis and run experiments. We also learn to work in a self-managed team structure. You would need to plan to spend about 6-8 hours everyday which includes our daily session from 9:25am-11:40am.
Phase 2 (12-15 weeks):
We extend the learnings to design experiments and interventions as we explore the deeper aspects of biases, heuristics in human decision making. The teams will associate with customers and users while designing and implementing the interventions. You would need to plan to spend about 6-8 hours everyday which includes our daily session from 9:25am-11:40am.
Phase 0 shall be an indepth course to prepare you as a behavioral designer, and would be completely offered free for the selected candidates. We will pay our candidates during Phase 1 and Phase 2. There will be monthly review on your progress. Certificates of completion shall be provided for completion of each phase. Based on your involvement and contribution, you would move to next phase. We expect the candidates to maintain at least 95% attendance to qualify for fellowship completion. We intend to absorb all qualified and interested Fellows as behavioral designers at FPL.
