EarthCheck – India’s Climate Change Data Journalism, Visualisation and Verification Workshops

Azim Premji University was established under the Azim Premji University Act 2010 of the Government of Karnataka. Azim Premji Foundation, the sponsoring body set up the University as a fully philanthropic and not-for-profit entity, with a clear social purpose. The University started in 2011 and since then have admitted over 2000 students.
IndiaSpend is the country’s first data journalism initiative. We utilize open data to analyze a range of issues with the broader objective of fostering better governance, transparency and accountability in the Indian government. We mostly work with Government data and are clear that we will not offer any opinions on any subject, rather use data to speak for itself. We are not an NGO. IndiaSpend is a project of the Spending & Policy Research Foundation and is based in Mumbai.
Azim Premji University in collaboration with IndiaSpend brings to you the EarthCheck workshop.
The workshop aims to provide journalists with the basic tools and skill-sets to report on climate change and build India’s first cohort of climate change journalists.
Participants will learn how to build data-backed and evidence-based narratives, tools to detect misinformation and disinformation and visualise stories.
A two-day certified course aimed at providing and equipping journalist with a comprehensive toolkit and skills to report on climate change.
Thia workshop welcomes reporters and journalists from newsrooms across the Northeast. This includes freelance journalists and writers.
By the end of this two-day certificate course, reporters will be better prepared to write data stories and will gain an insight to best practices while reporting on climate change.
