Programme Dates: 📌Colombo: 17 – 18 July/ 📌Kandy: 20- 21 July
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
The scenario today demands using knowledge to bring about change. In other words, working India’s democracy. This is what we aim to do. The challenge, we see, is two-pronged. On the one hand, millions live within a biomass-based subsistence economy, at the margins of survival.
CSE and Central Environmental Authority (CEA) are collaborating to conduct a workshop cum training programme on ‘Strengthening the Environmental Impact Assessment in Sri Lanka’.
Participation by invitation only.
Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi have collaborated to conduct a workshop cum training programme on Strengthening the Environmental Impact Assessment in Sri Lanka. The programme will be conducted at Colombo from 17 -18 July and at Kandy from 20 to 21 July.
Both CEA and CSE is under the impression that Sri Lanka have got a good environmental law in form of National Environmental Act. However, when it comes to implementation, there are certain challenges associated with it. To achieve the objective of EIA, data collection, impact assessment, implementation of EMP plan and the preparation of report has to be executed in full Spirit.
The responsibilities lie with all stakeholder – CEA and project proponent. There is need of accreditation of EIA consultant in Sri Lanka to ensure the check and balance in terms of quality of EIA report. Keeping this in mind, CEA & CSE are conducting workshop cum capacity building programme to enhance the knowledge of environmental regulators to ensure better implementation of EIA in Sri Lanka.
