The National Coalition for Natural Farming (NCNF) came into being in July of 2020 which sought to build a platform for accelerating the learning, practice and policy making related to agroecology-based farming in its multiple variants. The Coalition is working with a mandate and a mission to empower at least 50 million small and marginal farmers covering at least 30 million hectares of agricultural land across India to adopt some form of Natural Farming within the prevailing decade. The urgent need for the Coalition was felt during the COVID 19 pandemic which accentuated the issues around rural livelihoods, food and nutrition insecurity, immunity, water stress, climate change, impacts of chemicals on human beings and environment, etc. To address these challenges a paradigmatic shift was deemed necessary and the Coalition was envisioned through the collective vision of multiple organisations working on Natural Farming. The objective of the Coalition is thus to serve as a platform for promoting various farming practices based on sustainable, agro-ecological principles, sharing knowledge, and evolving learning across the country.
