The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

The TISS, Mumbai campus, announces the “TISS- Balaji Foundation Fellowship Programme” anchored by the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work, to encourage and nurture TISS Social Work alumni to explore fresh ideas in the field of Criminal Justice anywhere in India. It is a two-year purely intervention-based Fellowship. The idea behind the Fellowships is to encourage TISS social work alumni to engage in the field of criminal justice and with vulnerable/marginalised populations towards protection of their legal rights and/or rehabilitation. The terrain of work is very challenging and will require qualities of being able to work in uncertain environments and without an organisation structure.

Interested candidates must be self-driven, motivated to work independently and ready to take on challenges that come in the way during the Fellowship period.

This is a full-time program so during the Fellowship period, Fellows are not allowed to take up any other study or job or assignment.

Only for TISS Social Work Graduates and Alumni

The Fellowships are for the current batch of Post Graduate students from Social Work and for Alumni who have graduated in the last two years ( 2020 and 2021) , who want to work in the criminal justice sector.
