Aspirational Block (AB) Fellowship is a strategic move by NITI Aayog to strengthen the impact of the Aspirational Blocks Program. The AB Fellows will work closely with Block level Officials and under the overall guidance of District Commissioner to develop strategies for accelerated implementation of ABP thematic areas, facilitate effective monitoring and planning, and conduct Field visits to ensure that the interventions are responsive to people’s needs and demands.

About Aspirational Block Programme:
The Aspirational Block Programme is a nationwide programme which focuses on improving governance to enhance the quality of life of citizens in the most difficult and underdeveloped blocks of India by converging existing schemes, defining outcomes, and monitoring them on a constant basis. It was launched on 7th January 2023 by Government of India and is anchored by NITI Aayog. The programme covers 500 blocks across 27 States and 4 Union Territories.

Role of Aspirational Blocks Fellows:
The deployment of Aspirational Block (AB) Fellows is a strategic move to bolster the impact of the Aspirational Blocks Program by harnessing the energy, talent, and passion of young fellows from reputed institutions towards achieving its goals of inclusive growth, community empowerment, and building a prosperous India for all. The AB Fellows will work closely with Block level Officials
and under the overall guidance of District Magistrate, Sangrur to develop strategies for accelerated implementation of ABP thematic areas, facilitate effective monitoring and planning, and conduct field visits to ensure that the interventions are responsive to people’s needs and demands

Key Responsibilities of Aspirational Blocks Fellows:

The Aspirational Blocks Fellows will be positioned as a critical link between the Block level Officials and NITI Aayog. Their primary responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with Block level Officials to design and execute development strategies aligned with ABP thematic areas.
  • Conducting regular Field visits to assess project implementation, address challenges, and collect ground-level insights.
  • Analyzing data and providing evidence-based recommendations to BLOs, District level Officials to optimize developmental initiatives.
  • Organizing workshops, awareness campaigns, and skill-building programs to empower the local community.
  • Keeping States and NITI Aayog abreast with the issues, challenges and need for support.
  • Support in any other work assigned by District Administration, Sangrur.

Qualifications:

  • Post Graduate in any discipline from a reputed institution
  • Should possess data analysis and presentation skills
  • Should be conversant with use of social media
  • Should possess Project Management Skills
  • Experience of working/internship with a Development Organisation
  • Self-driven with good communication skills
  • Can read, write, and speak Punjabi

Note: As per Circular on Key Initiatives under Aspirational Blocks Programme issued by NITI Aayog dated 25 August 2023, the AB Fellow can be from anywhere in India, there is an emphasis on selecting candidates ideally from Punjab to ensure a deeper understanding of local nuances and challenges Preference will be given to candidates who have completed their higher education in the development/rural stream and have worked in the development sector.

Tenure of AB Fellows:
The tenure of Aspirational Block Fellow will be for a span of one year initially. The program allows for one-year extension of the fellowship, contingent upon the fellow’s satisfactory performance and demonstration of contribution to the programmer’s objective.
