Alag Karo was to establish and sustain source segregation of waste in residential societies, schools, and commercial establishments and enhance capacities of waste workers to ensure higher resource recovery in the city. Working to implement the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, the first phase of the project (2017 to 2019) successfully enforced in 42 residential societies with a total of 22,000 households and enabled composting of biodegradable waste in 21 RWAs in Gurugram. This diverted waste from landfill 23.9 tons per day and reduced GHG emissions by 12,000 tons CO2e with SROI is estimated to be INR 2.66 for every INR 1 invested. After the phenomenal success of Phase 1, a need to address all types of waste generators in a city was felt. Hence, the second phase of Alag Karo was conceived in September 2020 to build a Model Ward for Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Management in Gurugram. A ward is the smallest administrative unit in Indian cities. To start with the Ward-level intervention, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram; and Ward 32 in Gurugram was selected to pilot the initiative. The project is being implemented by Saahas a ‘not for profit’; works towards holistic waste management solutions with a vision of India becoming a leading Circular Economy where Nothing is Waste since 2001.
We are thrilled to share that Team Alag karo is organizing a Plog Run in collaboration with the renowned ‘Plogman of India’ on April 30th, 2023, at 7 AM in Smriti Vatika, Sector 55, Gurugram.
As a part of our initiative, Project Alag Karo, which focuses on source segregation, we have been actively engaging with various communities in ward 32, Gurugram. We believe that the Plog Run will not only bring the community together but also would promote fitness and raise awareness about the importance of source segregation and its impact on reducing littering and open dumping.
We extend a warm invitation to everyone to join us for this exciting event and learn more about our project.
The event will feature a motivational discussion on the significance of source segregation and its role in building a sustainable future.
We hope to see you there and participate for the meaningful cause.
