Deadline for Application June 18, 2022 (position open until filled)

Pachamama Alliance is an established San Francisco-based social-profit organization with a mission to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

The Development Team seeks a creative and organized individual, with familiarity and comfort working in databases and with spreadsheets as well as ability to learn new systems.  Excellent interpersonal skills, to support the growing demands of our fundraising efforts is required. We are looking for a candidate whose life purpose is deeply aligned with the mission and vision of Pachamama Alliance. This is an opportunity to learn fundraising within a new paradigm at the organization founded by renowned fundraiser Lynne Twist, author of The Soul of Money.

The Position
This is a key member of the Development Team with primary accountability for the development of our monthly donor program (Global Citizens) cultivation and relation, as well as event management, with special attention on volunteer Table Hosts.

The Development Associate serves as a foundation for our excellent donor relationships by handling donation and gift processing, database updates, and donor correspondence—including fielding email and phone queries as well as managing tax receipts and acknowledgement letters. The Development Associate also plays a supporting role in producing fundraising events throughout the year and performing associated follow-up tasks. This position is often the first point of contact for our donors and is responsible for accurate upkeep of donor records.

Donor Cultivation:
The Development Associate reaches out proactively to current donors, primarily Global Citizen monthly donors, to update and keep them informed about our work. This role also reaches out to potential monthly donors – to cultivate relationships and invite them to become recurring contributors. This position is part of a team that develops the overall cultivation strategy for these monthly donors. A large part of working with this donor group includes monitoring metrics and key performance indicators, as well as following up on processes set in place to engage Global Citizens who have experienced recent credit card declines and who are lapsed monthly donors. These workflow processes include outreach via email and phone, gift entry, and updating the donor database. There will also be opportunities to create new ways to engage donors and invite them to learn about our work.

Events:
This position partners with Development team members to help plan our main fundraisers of the year, and organizes introductory events, fundraising events, cultivation events, and gratitude events for new and existing donors. This includes following up with participants after events by answering direct donor inquiries, creating a smooth donation experience for them, and/or cultivating the participants to become donors by engaging them in other areas of our work. This role also manages, communicates, and serves as the main point of contact for large-event, volunteer Table Hosts. This position helps to generate the range, scope, purpose and goals for events, and provides input on event planning and details, as needed. In 2019 we held 9 gratitude events, 9 ask events and 11 outreach events. In 2020 and 2021 our events were virtual, and we anticipate a mix of virtual and live events into the future.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Constituent contact and donation record upkeep in Salesforce database – specifically for monthly Global Citizens
  • Managing and executing correspondence between donors and the Pachamama
  • Alliance team at large, including answering phone and email inquiries for general fundraising and development questions
  • Managing and executing donor acknowledgement in the form of tax letters, thank you letters and phone calls
  • Generating reports through Salesforce database
  • Assisting with the production of fundraising, cultivation, and gratitude events
  • Managing, communicating, and serving as the main point of contact for large-event, volunteer Table Hosts
  • Occasions are rare, but some evening and weekend work will be required when we return back to in-person gatherings

Other duties as needed

Compensation and Benefits
This position is full-time and located in the San Francisco Presidio. The position intends to be in person and on-site, and some remote-work time is negotiable. Salary is $59,000-$64,000 per year plus generous vacation (20 days annually in addition to holidays, starting the first year) and health benefits.

Pachamama Alliance uses a distributed leadership model – meaning no direct managers, mainly working in teams – to organize our workflow. While conventional models have produced many impressive outcomes over time, we believe we need new models to create empowering, responsive, transformative systems and structures. As part of Pachamama Alliance’s purpose we say that we are here to inspire and galvanize the human family to generate a critical mass of conscious commitment to a thriving, just and sustainable way of life on Earth. Using a distributed leadership model is a commitment to transforming human systems and structures that separate us, and to transforming our relationships with ourselves, with one another, and with the natural world.

While we sort out the changes the COVID19 pandemic has wrought on how we work together, this position will be able to work remotely at times, but must be available to regularly work in person in the San Francisco Presidio office.  Employees receive a complimentary pass to the PresidiGo Shuttle that has stops at the San Francisco Transit Terminal, Embarcadero, and others in route to the Presidio.

All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the Pachamama Alliance organization.
